Strike Anywhere
Chorus Of One CD

A terrific beginning for this hardcore punk band from Va. Aggressive yet melodic, Strike Anywhere explodes with pure energy and anger mixed with a vision of hope...well-crafted political lyrics blended with fierce music. Not QUITE as refined and strong as Change Is A Sound (already an all-time classic), it is still head and shoulders above most recent releases in the punk genre. Get it, then see them live....if you can handle it!!

Rise Against
Unraveling CD

Phenomenal!! Terrific melodic hardcore with depth and artistry rarely seen in this genre. "Remains of Summer Memories". "reception Fades", and "Six Ways..." are standout efforts on an album that is strong from start to finish. Powerful, angry, yet musical and mournful...get this!

Demo Compilation-Vol 1 CD

Alot of overlap with vol #2, which I bought first. Can't really say it is worth having both unless you are a collector (a hardcore collector?). That being said, the raw demos contained on both collections are hard and usually driving, and there are a few glimmers of their future work.

New Noise Theology (Extended Play) CD

Refused put out a fair amount of "traditional" hardcore, then came out of almost nowhere to record perhaps the most groundbreaking hardcore punk albums of the past fifteen years--The Shape Of Punk To Come. This ep is an extension of this later-era Refused, bearing a single from the aforementioned disk (New Noise). The b-sides are excellent works, particularly the fierce, fiery "Poetry Written In Gasoline". The remix track is a COMPLETE departure from ANY previous work, but it works in conjunction with rest of the ep. A great little cd.

Human Atom Bombs CD

Fabulous political punk with a pop flavor. Sing-alongs mixed with street punk anthems, with solid production to boot. "If We Unite" has an infectious groove that is reminiscent of '80's power pop, as does "Karl Marx and History", but there is enough "pure" punk here for most anyone. Lyrically, Randy is very political without being preachy or over the top--the message is clear, but it is not a pseudo-religious clarion call to the Left. All in all, a very satisfying work.

Demo Compilation-Vol 2 CD

These early demos are raw and much more straightforward than Refused's later efforts. The political rhetoric (when there) is more simple, almost sophmoric (witness "Racial Liberation"). That said, you can certainly see the roots of the band's development in these efforts. Would recommend this collection to all hardcore Refused fans; those just curious should get "The Shape Of Punk To Come" and prepare to be blown away.
