There is no way you can compare this to The Blue Album. It is an entirely different style and comes from a different place. This is an autobiographical album of Rivers', the lead singers, heart. It is darker and deeper than the first album. The first album is new and fresh and original, and wonderful as well. Pinkerton is amazing on its own level as well. I find it impossible to compare it to the first, for they are completely separate. But this is an album one must get... it expresses the deepest feelings one may have with no inhibitions.
This album was not as good as the former two, but it still deserves a 4 out of 5. This album is pop, yes, but weezer is pop geek rock. The album has quite a few well-written songs and though it is not as emotionally auto-biographical as Pinkerton, or as perfectly original as The Blue album, it is weezer. And if you are a fan, it is understood what type of music they put out, and it is by no means superficial or effortless. This is definitely worth buying.
