TSOL

Beneath The Shadows

Nitro 15839

Released on June 26, 2001

This item is not available for purchase. Sorry!

Originally released in 1982 on Alternative Tentacles and then again on Restless Records in 1989, BENEATH THE SHADOWS is one of the true punk rock classics. It was an early masterpiece from TSOL—a progression from their earlier releases—highlighting the maturity of a truly original band. On BENEATH THE SHADOWS TSOL added keyboards to the lineup, along with complex and stylized arrangements that made one think the London Symphony might be touring with them in the future. As other bands in their genre fumbled around ‘into the unknown’, with BENEATH THE SHADOWS TSOL forged a new sound that made their fan base more numerous and rabid.Nitro is proud to re-release BENEATH THE SHADOWS simultaneously with the release of the band’s brand new album, DISAPPEAR.

The sound that T.S.O.L. went with on Beneath The Shadows is very different from Dance With Me but for the most part it works well. I don't know what was going on in California in 1982-83 that punk bands were suddenly adding keyboards to their music but for T.S.O.L. it gives the songs a more eerie feel to them. Bad Religion had way less successful results with "Into The Unknown" and that album is still out of print to this day as a result.

All the songs on here are pretty good but Soft Focus, Beneath The Shadows, and Wash Away are the standout tracks by far. Overall I would recommend buying this but don't expect Beneath The Shadows to be Dance With Me part 2 otherwise you might be a bit disappointed.

This album is pretty good. The keyboard is a little weird at first but you get use to it. All in all a good effort by TSOL. But not a classic like Dance With Me.

I am a pretty big T.rue S.ounds O.f L.iberty fan. I enjoy the horror punk scene a lot. Prior to buying this cd i own "dance with me," "divided we stand," "change today?" "hit and run," and finally "dissapear." Like most of you i heard the sound clip from this cd, it is one of the best songs on the album. Like most of the TSOL albums this one was pretty good. This group is really re-inventive and creative. For this cd, it does'nt neccesarily provide Pros for this album, but Cons. I really don't mind a couple of synthasizers and piano stuff, but this album overkills both. The piano plays a huge part in this one folks. Practically equivialent to the guitar riffs. :( I really wish this one would have been heavier like "dance with me." The reason it not perfect is becuase the overdose of the piano/synthasizers. So if your a fan of TSOL then you should pick this one up sooner or later. This one places between "Dance with me" (best) and "hit and run" (worst.)For you first timers, go for "Dance with me." it's classic.

After two excellent 7"s and a great album ("Dance with me") of early SoCal hardcore punk, TSOL released this controversial record in 1982. Keyboards play a big part on this album and the general mood is much more refined and melodic. Nonetheless it is a very good release and it should not be overlooked.

This was actually good. The first 2 or 3 songs kinda suck, but then it picks up. 2 instumental songs. If you think the keyboards are here and there or in the background, you'd be surprised. Overall, this cd has an upbeat depression-ish sound to it.

This TSOL CD is ok. But it's not the best like Dance With Me. It has keyboards added to it which I don't really like. But theres a few good songs. So I guess you should buy this.

Another masterpiece by one of the best punk bands ever. This cd has a pianist added to it but still sounds awesome. Musically this is one of the top punk albums ever. I recommend you buy this.
