Greenland Whalefishers are best known as 'Norway's answer to The Pogues'if they were Irish or from the USA I'm sure they would be much better known, they have been going allmost 10 years now and this is their 3rd album, they have had many single releases(plus 2 previous albums) all on their own label, this is the first release that has been done on a Non Norweigan label and is a split release with two small UK labels.

Well worth the find! Any G-W-F cds are a must have for all Pogues fans. I have been an avid fan of paddy punk for quite some time and find these guys to be closest to that Shane MacGowan, Pogues era/style. At times listenin' to "Steets of Salvation" I find myself in awe hearin' that Pogue like influence carried throughout the album. From the opening title track to "the Party's Over", their folk-like rendition of "Fields of Athenry" to concluding with the pipe infested "For Bitter & Whiskey" it's just too good! I know these guys are from Norway but they can carry their own weight of Irish passion. Without second guessing the G-W-F are quite a surprise to those lookin' to expand more into the Irish/folk punk scene. This was definately money well spent! For under $10 bucks yer gettin' a real deal. Also recommended are their previous albums "Loboville" and "Mainstreet Sword", hard to find, but damn well worth it!
