The golden voice behind WAXWING's poignant rock crusade, ROCKY VOTOLATO unleashes his second solo full-length for Second Nature, Suicide Medicine. Stripped down and sparse, with its soul laid painfully bear, but powerful and compelling, Suicide Medicine shares commonalities with other singer/songwriters but easily surpasses them with its sheer pathos, compelling nature and beauty. Laden with sombre ballads and acoustic laments intertwined with more driving fare, VOTOLATO's richly unmistakable voice guides, soars over and caresses these 12 tracks.
Recorded and produced by Chris Walla (DEATH CAB FOR CUTIE, THE VELVET TEEN) with an impressive guest musician roster including Chris Walla (DEATH CAB FOR CUTIE), Casey Fobert (PEDRO THE LION), Matt Johnson (ROADSIDE MONUMENT), and Seth Warren (RED STARS THEORY).

Rocky Votolato est mon fuck friend (blague de mauvais gout). Sérieusement j'ai entendu 2 chansons de cet album et c'est vraiment un chef-d'oeuvre pour tout les emo fans acoustic.

My only complaint is that it gets a little slow by the last three songs for me. Otherwise it's a hell of a cd. Rocky's voice really develops from Burning My Travels Clean to Suicide Medicine. Don't expect Waxwing though. I'd recommend it for a first. You can also hear the entire album on Second Nature's website, but don't let that stop you from buying it it's a great cd to have.

This is a great CD. It covers a lot of ground lyrically and really makes you think. Musically it is pretty melancholy in the best way possible.

I love this cd. I love Rocky Votolato. I love writing reviews and having sex too. Anyways, this is (pardon my prententiousness) a more underground (and way better) Dashboard Confessional (when they were acoustic). Brackets are fun. So is this band. Which is a guy...who is a band. If you like Waxwing, Dashboard, Descaparacidos, Bright Eyes, and the likes then pick this shit up. Actually just pick it up anyway. This guy sings straight from the heart, and that's why it is incredible. Keep up the great work you sexy beast. I wish I was a sexy beast, but I ain't Gene Hackman ... too bad for me. Wait is he even in that movie? Ah fuck it.

Rocky Votolato is absolutely amazing, especially if you've seen him live. The live shows are intense, I saw him for the first time in a coffee shop with maybe 18 other people, hard to top an experience like that. This is his cleanest and best solo release yet, great solo work without the whining that is all too common in solo albums these days. Watch "the Edge of Quarrel" if you want to see him in a very entertaining indie movie about punk vs straight edge with the murder city devils, botch and trial. Jordan, Davis, Ca

Rocky Votolato is a great singer/songwriter. From country tinged ballads to acoustic lullabies to full band rockers, this cd is full of great songs. The lyrics are deeper than your average acoustic singer dealing with despair, desire, death and happiness. If you like the new mp3, any of his old stuff or Waxwing – get this because it’s well worth the money.
