What a band! Combining the speed of Propagandhi with some latter day Crime In Stereo melodies and atmosphere, this is a sweet Japanese import of their last EP and album combined into one great album. Highly recommended.

My point is that everyone who likes punk rock or skatepunk should give attention to this band. This is not the kind of flashy bands singing about partying and having fun. I think this album (collection of a full lenght + an ep) has a more mature sound than a lot of bands out there plus they don't got affected by the "hardcore breakdown" trend which is becoming too damn big out there. If you are looking for well thought music who doesn't fit the mold of what is popular right now, this is something you should get. Another positive point (as the other reviewer said) is that this cd gives you 52 minutes of music while others of the genre usually don't go further than 30 minutes. So you've got plenty of music for your money. This is really cheap for a japanese release!

I'm extremely picky when it comes to melodic punk rock. It's a sound that has become all the more stale in the last decade or so (few bands being the exception). You have an act that tries to one up every other like-minded act out there, and in 9 attempts out of 10 the end results sound exactly the same (or worse). Lipona on the other hand are one of the few exceptions. I'm not a huge fan of the "technical" style, And while Lipona definitely get technical, it's far from being comparable to that over the top "50 riffs a minute" junk that we continue to have to endure. The vocals are perfect, no whining and no trying to hit anything that's out of reach. Screaming is used sparingly (which I like), hardcore breakdowns are nonexistent (which I also like), the lyrics are neither juvenile or pretentious and they throw in the occasional spacey interlude as a break in the action. The only flaw (albeit very minor) is the track "Shooty Hoops", it's not a bad song, but it just seems out of place and I find myself skipping it when it comes around. Aside from that it's an amazing 52 minutes of music. This is one of my top 5 albums I've purchased in 2010 and I highly recommend it. I expect amazing things from Lipona on down the road.
