Dillinger Four

Civil War

After a seemingly infinite absence, the Midwest’s most influential band, Dillinger Four, have delivered their long-promised fourth proper full-length. The release of Civil War marks the end of an agonizing 6 year span that fans have endured since the last D4 studio album, and allays the speculations and rumors that have been bubbling just below the surface of the indie music scene for the past few years. No longer merely a tantalizing enticement ruminated over endlessly on message boards, Civil War is finally here and worth every second of the interminable wait. From the opening note of the first track it’s blatantly apparent that the guys in D4 haven’t lost a step.

Alrighty, now time for the LP review. First off, love the artwork and the photos inside. I read were some people were talking about Paddy's voice sounding different on this album and I wanted to add my 2 cents in. As we were all waiting patiently for this masterpiece to come out the last 6 years....Fat Wreck Chords put out the 2nd volume of their ROCK AGAINST BUSH comp. I was excited for it, because it had a new D4 song "Spreewheels...something". A song were Paddy sings lead vocals. I noticed right off the bat his voice sounded different. I reminded me of how Shane MacGowan's voice changed after his last Pogues album. I couldn't tell if it was just from years of alcohol consumption or just age. But then I saw these guys play last May in Austin, Texas and Paddy sounded like his old self. He sang the songs exactly like on all their previous albums. And on the this new album he does sound a little different, but his 3 songs are my favorites. And look forward to MORE!!! And Eric's songs are good too. Now let's just get Billy back into singing a jam or two also. This is the best album of 2008 by far! and Dillinger Four is hands down my favorite band right now.
