Along with 'Horsebox' these recordings were the begining of a new era for Leatherface. Even after a hiatus this group of musicians hadn't lost a step. The six songs presented on this split are some of the most powerful and emotional songs this band has ever produced. The pure emotion in songs like 'andy' or 'wax lyrical' rival the best in the Leatherface catalog. Even classic songs like 'dead industrial atmoshere' or 'not superstitious' from "mush" are contested here with the sheer brilliance in the craft and performance of these songs. All in all I rank these six songs from Leatherface as good as anything from their catalog, and as previously mentioned, I place these recordings on the same level as "mush" from 1991 which many herald as a perfect display of punk rock and the perfect Leatherface album.
The Hot Water Music contribution is excellent as well. And while I feel Leatherface truly over shadows them in this release the two bands compliment each other well. HWM really displays some of their stronger attributes on this release that will surely please long time fans. In addition their material presented here would be a great introduction to the group. Their five songs are very well performed and executed and only lag slightly behind from being paired up with Leatherface on this split. A great album that is highly recommended to true fans or emotional punk rock, and a great example of two passionate and devoted bands.

The Hot water songs are really good too. Get the new BYO split with Alkaline trio and One man army, its really freakin good.

They only reason I gave this cd a 3 star is because I don't like Leatherface, HWM put some great tracks on here, buy this is you like HWM, and if you like Leatherface, then buy it as well.
