On December 21, 2007, the Bones released their debut E.P., Sleep When You’re Dead. The urgency in the album reflects the urgency in which the album was released; recorded over the course of one weekend and released four weeks later. Speeding through nine songs in twenty-one minutes, the band has released a politically charged album driven by strong song writing that pays homage to their musical roots. This release also says something about the DIY ethos of the band with everything from the engineering, mixing and mastering done by guitarist Mark Costa and his brother Reuben Costa (also owners and operators of More Ape Than Man Records) to the album artwork and layout being done by singer Marky Rabone.
Just as the closing track “All We Got” on Sleep When You’re Dead declares, “We put our heart into every song and it might be a waste of time, but it’s all we got”.
