Guilt Beats Hate

Deep Elm 422

Released on February 3, 2002

This item is not available for purchase. Sorry!

This Santa Rosa-based threesome doesn't sacrifice volume for intimacy, creating a hailstorm of songs on GUILT BEATS HATE that are as brutal as they are tender. Intelligent, electrifying and addictive, BENTON FALLS fuse together disparate genres to compose songs with lush, luminous segments that shatter unpredictably with bursts of aggression and intensity. They alter tempo with impeccable precision and startling tightness (their most identifiable aesthetic), teetering dynamically between introspection and rage. Richardson's glistening voice, impassioned screams, penetrating lyrics and sharp guitars combined with deftly deployed drum sounds and thunderous bass lines result in masterful narratives about frustration, struggle, uncertainty and inevitability. GUILT BEATS HATE is a breath of fresh air and dazzling display of maturity that will be appreciated by both hardcore and post-punk fans for many years to come.

I like this album, it's pretty solid. Pros: Good guitar work. Singer has a good voice. Lyrics are good as well Cons: Songs are not too memorable, when I'm listening to it I think this is pretty cool, but nothing stays with me after its over. The background screaming is a little unecessary. Overall this is a pretty good release, get this if you like melodic emo-styled rock or other Deep Elm bands.

I bought this cd which very high hopes but I must admit I was a little let down. It just doesn't do it for me. "Angel on Hiatus" and "This Housecall Could Kill" are very good songs but not a whole lot else really stands out. Solid but not amazing.

this is a great CD. although it is diffrent from there first album "Fighting Starlight" it is great. I wouldnt say it is better. if you like pure Emo "fighting starlight" is the CD for you. but this one is more faster, greater guitar, and a badass drumer. I recomend this CD to anyone who is a fan of there first album. later

This album is pretty good, I only listened to it all the way through 3 or 4 times... at first it sucked me in, but after i got the anatomy of a ghost CD, it was history

This album surprised the hell out of me. It is extrememly enjoyable to my ears and I am thoroughly impressed with it's substance. Thought provoking lyrics meshed with aggressive, and yet soothing guitar. The music never gets redundant or dull and even though the vocals come across as very different at first listen, they grow on you. Benton Falls is yet another great Deep Elm band on the rise, alongside Red Animal War, and The Appleseed Cast. Call them " post hardcore" or " screamo", or watever other unnecessary label you want. Just call them for what they are, a good rock band.

I can't believe how friggen good this album is. It was such a surprise. It's not as slow, droaning, and played out as their first album. They lost the second guitarist but you don't notice it. The tempo is more like Fairweather, Moneen, or old Cross My Heart. It's definitely more post-punk or emo-core. It's amazing and has really great lyrics that stand out. The only complaint would be it's length because of the short instrumental track 10. But it's not enough to lose a star.
