Division Of Laura Lee

Black City

Epitaph/Burning Heart 82022

Released on August 27, 2002

Want to be notified once we get restocked?

Released in Europe last year, "Black City" is thrashing, dark-edged, garage rock that has been described as: "A combination of The Stooges, The Hives, Joy Division, The (International) Noise Conspiracy and My Bloody Valentine." Now that's saying something... Established in the underground scene as an amazing live act, "Black City" brings Division Of Laura Lee's live energy straight to disk.

This is really refreshing. Most bands nowadays have one of three or four generic sounds, and they're lucky if they even pull that off with any style. Division of Laura Lee has a sound all their own.

There are synthesizers, samples, and all kinds of weird instruments. It's a little experimental at times, with the police sirens going on. However, it's still straight-up rock music. Most of the tracks are fast, up-beat, and generally rocking.

The sirens, however, aren't needed. They're annoying, and they make me really paranoid when this CD is in my car stereo. They're pretty quite though, so I barely notice them...until I swear that a firetruck wants to pass me.

Are you telling me that I'm the only smart shopper at Interpunk? Why has no one else reviewed this (or bought this if you haven't)? It's by far the album of the year! Every song on here is an instant classic. Hives, Strokes, White Stripe and T(I)NC fans, you're missing out.
