Yes, a lot of people hate this compilation. After all, the concept of taking 16 classic Queen songs and allowing 16 punk/noisecore/experimental bands to cover them, thus "ruining" them, sounds unpalatable to the average listener. However, these bands are just putting their artistic spin on the songs; if Picasso painted his own rendition of the Mona Lisa (and I think he has), it would look drastically different, but it would still intriguing to look at. I think the bands on this compilation are the same way, but that's just my opinion. I appreciate all the "ruined" songs here in their own unique ways, from the Blood Brothers' frantic yet wonderful "Under Pressure" to Bastard Noise's brutal-on-the-ears "Lily of the Valley" to Fast Forward's freakishly paced "Crazy Little Thing Called Love."
It's a very, VERY radical departure from Queen's original work, but it's not bad by any means. They may as well have 16 bands create their own inventive renditions of Queen than allow a crummy tribute band try and perform the impossible task of emulating real Queen. Who knows, maybe Freddie Mercury is looking down from Heaven and smiling about this. Maybe.

Yeah, got to give this one a 3. Some of it is great, wonderful even. Such as the blood brothers track (my favorite on the entire cd). It could almost be worth the money alone. Some of the songs however do leave something to be desired. Such as "bohemian rhapsody". That one was a major let down. But, if you are wanting something anywhere close to the originals, then this is not what you are looking for. Although, i personally love the fact that they all took the songs and made them into their own. So...whatever you think, it's up to you.

Being the Queen fan that I am (should I even admit that?) I think the artists on the record do a great job of making all those wonderful Queen songs their own. The obvious highlights include: A chilling rendition of "Under Pressure" by the lovely Blood Brothers, The Oath and "We Are the Champions", Get Hustle "Another One Bites the Dust", Glass Candy "...Master Strokeā, and of course, Melt Banana with "We Will Rock You". Just be macho and buy the damn record.

I don't really understand all the positive reviews of this album. As far as I'm concerned there are only three or four worthwhile songs on here. I basically bought it just for the Melt Banana song. The album title is right, it DOES sound like Queen through a meat grinder. I usually like stuff like this, too. I don't think I'll be listening to this album much more though.

I mostly got this for the Blood Brothers song, although there are a lot of other bands I like on it. It turned out to be VERY worth the price - there's really only one song I could do without (the Bastard Noise song). If you're a fan of even one of the bands on this CD, you won't be disappointed with the rest. Oh yes, and the Melt Banana song sounds GREAT bumping out of your car stereo....
