My Solo Project is MATES OF STATE's critically acclaimed, difficult-to-find, yet highly sought-after debut album. The record wasoriginally released in 2000 on Omnibus and was sold, for the most part, by the band on tour. As MATES' fanbase began to build quickly, the record gained a near cult status as the band literally sold thousands of copies at shows. Following an excellent year in 2002, which saw MATES' second album (Our Constant Concern) and perpetual touring, Mates of State are re-releasing My Solo Project on Polyvinyl this April. "Bursting with euphoric energy, My Solo Project is a tremendous debut full-length from San Francisco's MATES OF STATE. With organ, drums, and belted-out boy-girl harmonies, the MATES OF STATE crank out a giant, joyous pop sound that needs no overdubbing or ornamentation to convey its exuberance. ...MATES OF STATE have built a freshness all their own, rejuvenating indie pop with unbelievable vigor." -All Music Guide

Great album. Amazing dual harmonized female/male vocals over drums and some crazy ass organ playing. This was my first Mates of State album, and it's probably my favourite. Proofs, La'hov, and Ride Again are the best songs, although they're all really damn good. Except for the 1st and last tracks, which were recorded (as a joke?) when Kori was 16 or something, and the entirely too long 3 minute intro for Nice Things That Look Good, although after 3 minutes this track is one of the best on the cd. So yeah pick this up if you like dancy/almost cheesy kind of stuff.
P.S. My favourite bands are all pretty much Screamo/Post Hardcore kind of stuff, but I still love these guys, if that gives you no indication of how well they can genre jump, I don't know what can.

Very, very unique and complex. You have to suddenly realize that this "sound" is based on just a duo of a boy and a girl. It's pretty amazing how diverse these two are. Definetly in a league you can't point your finger upon. Very, very, very catchy. Songs you will actually sing along too while you're in the shower. Awesome.
