What country music should be. Something exhausted, dark, raw, mistreated by life. But still hoping. It talks about God, liquors, loneliness, liquors, trying to have fun inside the boredom of life, and liquors. A spiritual record, something you will come to again and again; don't trust your first impression about it; it will be destructed by the second one, who will by destructed by the third, and so on. Punks make country, and it's better than country-singers making country.

Punk rockers playing country! Gotta love it. Its good music to drink and sing along to. They are good live too.

Everyone needs this record, even if you think you don't like country. You especially need it if you're a fan of Armchair Martian or All, they have both singers. I always thought Armchair was alt-punk-country or you know, some shit like that. DTR is all old-fashioned country. I regret missing their tour.

I love ALL, I love ARMCHAIR MARTIAN and I love DRAG THE RIVER. Even if, musically speaking, each band has its own style. DRAG THE RIVER is country music. So the point is that it doesn't matter the music style, but the feeling; and you cannot go wrong with a band featuring Jon Snodgrass and chad price, that's all.

More like a hundred zillion stars...This is probably one of the 10 best records I've ever heard.

This band has members of my 2 favorite bands, ALL (Chad Price) and Armchair Martian (Jon Snodgrass and Paul Rucker). It's also got JJ Nobody from the Nobody's and obviously JJ Nobody and the Regulars playing bass. Zach Boddicker is one of the best pedal steel guitar players I've ever heard. He's really good.

Even though Hobo's Demo's was excellently superb, I have to say I like "CLOSED." a lot better. But who wouldn't? It's got 4 more songs than Hobo's. I think this is even better than Armchair Martian's new record, "Who wants to play bass?" That's not easy for me to say, but I think it's true. "CLOSED" even includes the lyrics, which is quite rare for anything Jon the Snod is involved with.

I think everyone else pretty much went over everything else. Oh yeah, only a little over half the songs are about alcohol, and the rest are about love, loss, and death. "Forgivesness" is one of the saddest and best songs I've ever heard. Chad Price writes amazingly good lyrics, and sings them very well. His fast songs are awesome, but I think I like his slow songs better. Most of Jon's songs are pretty fast-paced compared to Chad's, and I love that too. Chad and Jon are the best...

I think I've said about enough. I'll leave you with a few lines from Forgiveness: "My daddy preached to me everyday for years. The day that he died, I swallowed my tears. With a tip of the bottle, and a wish you were here. I'd trade forgiveness for a beer."

the songwriting on this cd is absolutely incredible and puts a lot of other bands to shame. the new version of "embrace the sound" is better than ever. the songs deal with death, loss, drinking, loneliness, redemption, and hope. regardless of what kind of music you prefer, you will enjoy this cd because of the heartfelt lyrics and jon snodgrass's soothing voice. "life of ruin" is one of the best songs i have heard in a long time. if you enjoyed mike ness's solo albums then you will love this.

This album is great. I never thought an album mostly about liquor could be so good. Jon and Chad sing some of the most honest and thoughtful lyrics I have ever heard. It's a little more complicated than "Hobo's Demo's", but loses no integrity. If you like All, Armchair Martian, Country, Alcohol, MUSIC or have a hard time with yourself or the ladies... buy this cd. "Embrace The Sound" is a little different from the Armchair version, buy it's beautifully done. Is it just me or is Jon singing a tiny bit differently these days? I thought his voice sounded a little different on the new Armchair Martian too. I personally think everyone would like this cd if they heard it. If you've read this far you have no reason not to buy this cd... so do it.
