Pedro The Lion

Control

Jade Tree 1072

Released on April 16, 2002

This item is not available for purchase. Sorry!

Seattle's PEDRO THE LION (aka: David Bazan) deliver Control, the band's third full-length album, which follows up 2000's Winners Never Quit. This time around, Bazan has recruited the help of SELDOM's Casey Foubert to share the burden, resulting in a collection of songs which play darker, fuller and sometimes much heavier than any of the band's previous releases. Control is the loose, raw tale of a hyper-modern marriage gone wrong. Wrapped inside the song arrangement's more intricate and highly matured over previous recordings, fans will find Bazan's trademark lyrical wrangling pushed even further to the side of heartache, cheating, misery and fear. On the BEDHEAD-friendly album opener "Options", Bazan sets the stage, singing: I could never divorce you, without a good reason, and though I may never have to, it's good to have options. Later, on "Unoriginal", the biggest of the rock songs in the newly updated PEDRO THE LION catalog, a nasty betrayal is revealed and critics might finally be persuaded to stop labeling the band a quiet, folky outfit.

this record is so amazing. extremely passionate low-key indie rock littered with emotion and a sense of overwhelming melancholy. perfect for those lonely nights nestling up with a whiskey bottle and thinking of better times. no, but seriously, this is an amazing record. pick it up if you're into anything remotely cathartic and indie rock based.

This is one of the greatest, most powerfull albums I have ever heard. Control conveys more emotion, anger and lust than any Pig Destroyer or Converge album (although P.D and Converge are still superb)and the beauty and magnificence of of the lyrics leak through the melodic music to create the perfect sound. An essential C.D for anyone at all interested in music, a definate must for anyone who knows the meaning of heartbreak.

Dave defintely broke the limits of passion on this one. Everything about this album makes me feel like a fuckin idiot... the music the lyrics, the meesage...this is talent right here...from beginning to end, this labum its just like a long trip trogh the most incredible tales.....This has to be the best emo cd out there and i think it will be for a while... unless Pedro The Lion reales something soon....this truley is amazing music, nothing but beautiful mellow melodies goind along one of the best story tellers out there.

David Bazan is such a talented writer. That's the best thing about this album. He is such a vivid storyteller. Rapture is such an amazing song. The chorus is so poppy and anthematic and it's a really hard song. A lot of the songs are really chunky in there guitar work. Bazan must be banished from the Christian market because of the lyrics in this one. This is one of his best ones... probably second best.

when i first bought this cd i was very dissapointed because we can all say its hard to find a friend has to be one of the best alums in our collection so i expected much morefrom them, but ately i have really gotten into his cd, so iwould reccomen this cd to any pedro the lion fan but be very open minded. ialso recommend buying a cd from a band in irvine.... they are calle ridicule and their cd is very cheap but wonderful... a lot like thursday... later kids

he says bad words. neat. i knew he was going to do something unexpected on this album, but i didn't think he would use bad words. it seems like he is trying to get away from his christian label. other then being unexpected he is also kicking mad butt. his story is really intesting and i super intelligent. he is and will remain my favorte writers ever. much love and a must have for anyone

this is the most rocking and intense album Pedro has ever released. there is still some of the folky laid back sound found on past releases here but not much. still, this album is incredible. my favorite track is 'penetration'.
