New Amsterdams

Para Toda Vida

Vagrant 360.2

Released on January 22, 2002

Anyone familiar with his work as a front man for indie rock sensations, the Get Up Kids, knows Matthew Pryor's ability to crank out energy-laden, dynamic pop songs. With the New Amsterdams, Pryor has stripped down his songs to their bare essentials and as a result, created 10 raw and passionate, yet sublimely restrained folk-pop gems.

This CD is ok...Maybe I just haven't listened to it enough times. But then again Never You Mind is pretty hard to follow up, that CD was amazing...I guess in comparison to other music similar to this, it's good, I'll definitely have to listen to it a few more times, and find something in it that snags me.....

Another great album from Matthew Pryor. This one is even more stripped down than Never you Mind, with most songs being just him and the acoustic guitar, and maybe a second guitar. Not quite as good as Never You Mind, but still superb. "My Old Man Had a Pistol" is one of the best songs ever set to an acoustic guitar. A must have for fans of The Get Up Kids, or just really good acoustic music.

this is a pretty good album, although i have'nt finished listening to the entire cd, i bought this because their last cd, "Never you mind" was also really good... and i am not usually a fan of anything all acoustic, but it really works for them..... another good get up kids side project to check out is the tijuana crime scene "Change of venue" is also really good

A strong follow up to Never You Mind. You are left wondering if this is the new direction of The Get Up Kids with the recent rumblings over a change in direction for the band.
