(Members Of Joan Of Arc, American Football)

Jade Tree 1059

Released on July 31, 2001

This item is not available for purchase. Sorry!

After several years pursuing careers apart from one another, the original lineup of the revered CAP'N JAZZ have reunited to form Chicago's newest art-funk post-rock groove outfit, OWLS. Featuring Tim Kinsella (JOAN OF ARC), Mike Kinsella (JOAN OF ARC, AMERICAN FOOTBALL), Victor Villarreall (GHOSTS & VODKA), and Sam Zurick (JOAN OF ARC, GHOSTS & VODKA), THE OWLS retain the obtuse structures of their previous bands while sonically stripping down to the basics of simple rock. The 8 song debut album was recorded at Steve Albini's (NIRVANA, PIXIES, PJ HARVEY) Electrical Audio Studios in Chicago, IL, where the band was able to capture the best elements of it's collective creators genius. Without a doubt, fans of their previous bands and newcomers alike will not be disappointed with the magic that these four have created with the mighty OWLS.

I've known about the owls for some time now. I'm not a big fan of Tim kinsella's vocals, I tried out joan of arc just couldnt get into. BUT THIS HITS THE SPOT. This cd is amazing! The music is just so cool and different you really get into it - let me get crazy here - its like your floating on this roller coaster thing sweet things flying past you, then the music pulls you another way. Ok I seriuosly dont do drugs, but im 18 and kind of dumb what the hey

A decenct release. It is made up from the members of Cap N' Jazz and you can tell it from the crazy guitars and insane drums from Mike Kinsella. It has a jazzy screaming twist to which I like. I give it four stars because it only has a handful of goods songs half of them suck.

you cant beat the owls, or any of the other bands that im konsella(sp) has been apart of. this is excellent indie rock(i refused to call this emo because i think emo is the worst word in the world for a music genre) and its got some of the catchiest tunes i have ever heard. the guitar riffs on this cd amaze me and they are just awesome. buy this cd. do it for the good of america.

owls are great. they're one of my favorite animals. and after i bought this cd, they're now one of my favorite bands also. it sounds like...cap'n jazz...lost a member. and thats what happened. and after they lost the member, they fell into a shallow state of a weird mood, and made a cd that makes you think that owls are playing the instruments. instead of people. but in all seriousness the cds musical creativity and the rawness (sorry thats a gross word) of the composition is stellar. and its the kinsella bros, so if none of that helped, its the kinsella bros. now your buying it...

I have to say i bought this album on a whim and it paid off. I listen to this when i paint as it fills my head with creativity. In my opinion it's more mature-sounding than Joan Of Arc, perhaps because it's more 'to the point' - if you could believe that.

This cd is beyond words. Think Cap'n Jazz minus some distortion with better mixing. I can't tell you to buy this cd enough. If you like Cap'n Jazz or any of the aftermath(Promise Ring, Joan Of Arc, ect)you will cherish this cd.
