Apple of Discord couples winding indie rock guitars with artful dynamic shifts and heartfelt vocals. So smooth a chorus, so tensive a verse, so sensible a structure; all these elements are tied together seemingly without effort as the maturity within the songs stands on its own. Lyrically, songwriter Cuartero mines the stories and experiences of the people in his life: "A lot of people mistake the songs as being autobiographical," he says, "but I don't write songs about myself anymore. Most of them are for people I know, and about situations and emotions that I never talk to them about."
Then he adds, "I am fully aware of how creepy that is."
But it's a perspective that works and one that has provided plenty of inspiration since Apple of Discord first formed in 1996. Their sound has thrived over a decade now, albeit not without a few member changes, and thus Apple of Discord remain active members of southern New Jersey's dynamic D.I.Y. scene, often setting up their own intimate shows in addition to regular club gigs in
the surrounding cities and on the road. The band will tour strategically in 2007, to support their late winter release of You're Not The Answer.
