Ekkaia's "Sombras del Progreso" is the most furious album ever created. Something about the Spanish makes them way more ballsy than any other hardcore out there. Call Ekkaia what you will, "neocrust," "emoviolence," "melodic punk metal," "melodic crust," etc., I still can't believe this hasn't hit the punk/hardcore scenes in full force.
Ekkaia has a very unique sound. Most songs, averaging at about three minutes in length, have very dark introductions, building into light-speed melodic shredding. Vocals are both guttural and screamed in an irate fury. No "screaming verse and singing chorus" bullshit on this record, just utter insanity for over 74 minutes.
Liner notes include the lyrics in both Spanish and fairly decent English, with some pretty silly mistranslations like, "Where threes grew once, now walls grow, time blind of oppression." Although, what is understandable is pretty profound. What really speaks, however, is the musicianship on this record... simply incredible.
Standout tracks are: "Sombras del Progreso," "Arrastradxs," "El Ultimo Aliento," "Demasiado Tarde Para Pedir Perdon," and "Por el Oxido y la Maquina." They have two MySpace pages with music, so check them out. For real. And look how cheap it is. Buy it and support DIY, you cheap bastard.
