One Step Shift

Chemical Burn

Loderbrock 1

Released on March 1, 2003

This item is not available for purchase. Sorry!

This is the first vinyl release by this emo-punk band ONE STEP SHIFT. Feauturing cover art by Derek Hess and pressed on limited edition white vinyl. Here is a review of the 7": "This is one of the best sevens I have heard in quite a while, yet I have not seen this band mentioned anywhere at all. So it was a nice surprise to say the least. It's white waxiness contains a pair of songs that differ in styles. "Chemical Burn" is a herky- jerky emo/math affair which is both melodic and rythmically pounding. Two vocalist dual it out to great effect, desperate shouting being the order of the day. It has the atmosphere of stuff like Indian Summer (the guitar sound and brooding nature is very much in that vein) crossed with a more modern sound and I like this a lot. It's nice and long too which works really well. The pace of the track is varied nicely too, building up to noisier moments yet not averse to mellowing out here and there either. On the flip we have "White Lighter" which is more melodic and straight forward, the vocals are mostly sung this time around and the song is long and has a lethargic feel. It lopes along with the bass more prominent, reminding me of Party of Helicopters, especially when they throw in the guitar solo part. So overall I think this is one of the best singles I have heard this year so far. Ace!" (Review from andy malcolm "collective- zine" UK).

i heard about em in a magazine, and the description sounded cool. however, the actual music is just ok. it's nothing too ground breaking, there's a little bit of dance punk and math rock combined, but something is missing.
