This Afternoon is America's best-kept secret. Since their 3 year existence the Syracuse NY band has taken their unique sound and high-energy live performance all over the east coast. They had numerous tours and shows, including a short tour with Dashboard Confessional & Onelinedrawning; amazing performances at Suny Albany Parkfest and world's biggest hardcore event Hellfest gained the band similar praise.
At the beginning of 2000, This Afternoon released their first record, "When Everything is Seven" (independent) which was recorded at Easley Studios in Memphis, TN. Syracuse newspaper "The New Times" voted the record as one of the top ten of the year, the first time a hardcore/punk influenced band ever achieved that mark. One year after their debut the band released a 4 song EP called "Made by Make Believe" on a small indie label Last One Chosen Records. Only a few copies were made, and within weeks they were all sold. This recording, originally intended to be a demo, was critically acclaimed and earned the band 3 Syracuse Area Music Award nominations for Best Rock Band, Best Rock Vocalist and Best Rock Instrumentalist.
And Now, after being praised by local press for their past two releases, This Afternoon comes with their long awaited follow up. Incredible engineering by Chris Gibson (former live-sound engineer Fireside, Glassjaw, Quicksand) and mastering by Alan Douches (Jets To Brazil, Saves The Day, Promise Ring) makes "If We Gave Up Now" an impeccably produced album that displays ten fully developed intense, yet energetic songs.
The fresh sound that This Afternoon brings you on "If We Gave Up Now" is the one of diversity; personal but imposing pervious and inventive songwriting. Emotional driven, sincere and irresistibly melodic music that is as much as touchy as it is rocking. Often been compared to Saves The Day, Jimmy Eat World, Get Up Kids and Texas Is The Reason, but they have assimilated rather than imitated, to create a mature sound that is all their own.
