Drop Out

(Produced By Joe Queer)

Goblin 5

Released on September 4, 2002

This item is not available for purchase. Sorry!

"Good rock n roll punk, catchy and angry...similar to Screeching Weasel but more melodic, with lots of f**k yous."–Maximum Rock n' Roll Zombies, surfing, fast cars, faster chicks and beer-fueled mayhem...and that's just the liner notes! This 19 track punk rock explosion comes from Canada's The Riptides. The credits speak for themselves: Produced by Joe Queer who also handles guitar, back-ups, and some lead vocal duties, Mixed & Mastered by Mass Giorgini (Screeching Weasel) & Phillip Hill (Teen Idols), even Wimpy (original Queer singer) lends vocals for a track! This is a punk rock release every collector must have! "Although the Ramones/Screeching Weasel influence is still strong, they've added a harder edge that incorporates a Meatmen/Dwarves sound...the uptight among you may not appreciate a band like The Riptides, but they probably wouldn't care."-- Exclaim! I'm giving this raw and rude album a 5 basically cos it has THREE songs about zombies on it, with one of these being about my all-time fave film, 'Dawn of The Dead'. What does this sound like? Well, it sounds exactly like a (very poorly played) mix of Screeching Weasel (even stealing a line from 'Boogada') and The Queers, so if you like them (ie if you like The Ramones) you'll like this. Wimpy sings on a track and Joe Queer sings and produces, so this angle of things is obvious.

Lyrically, it's just cheapjack misogyny and junkscumpunk and splattershit, with every other word as 'fuck' (which is fine). It's absolutely nothing you haven't heard before a million times, but taking it for what it is, ie a bunch of barely-sentient wrecks who cannot play, it's pretty damned entertaining overall. I have listened to it a coupla times today and have found the chorus for the two best shitkicker rabble-rouser romper-stompers here, 'Night of The Living Dead' and 'Degenerate Girl', ricocheting through my head like a bullet through JFK's, so that may tell you something. Go on, buy this unoriginal sonic sloppy seconds and get drunk to it, you know you want to....

Ramones-core pop-punk with some guy from the Queers. And songs about stuff... and zombies... and stuff. Dammit, let me find the CD...aww... there's a song about Killer Klowns, too. Cool album, best song is "Emo Motherfucker"... don't know why. - Blake

Reminds me of The Queers' "Beyond the Valley.." if it was good, really good. Fast and raw and it manages to squeeze in a couple of good mid/low-tempo songs. Good shit.

Joe Queers sings on a few songs. Those songs are AWESOME! The rest of the cd is so-so...a few hits, more misses, but then again I've always been more into the bubblegum-queers than the shitfuckbitchmynamesjoequeer-queers, which the Riptides sound resembles. Definitely worth checking out even if only for the Joe Queer sung tracks (they really are gold!).

I bought this based on the first review of this album. Thanks Chris in Cinncinnati. This really does sound like a more hardcore version of The Queers. Lyrically it's nothing new but the harder sound just makes it sound better. Fans of Weasel, Queers, Ramones will definitely enjoy this shit.

I have to start out by saying that if you don't have this cd you suck! These guys are great and I'm pissed at myself for not learning about them years before. This cd is great and has awesome lyrics and makes fun of emo kids and punk kids and the like. One of my favorites, and a song about the greatest zombie flick ever, filmed in my hometown. A little trivia for yinz, the girl in the basement is now a ceramics teacher for 7th and 8th grades. How do I know? Cause I had her. So buy this and if you don't go to Hell.

It's been a long time from when I was this impressed with an album. These guys are great. Remind me of a cross between the Queers with a dash of FEAR and a pinch of hardcore. Just a very good punk album made by folks who are punk. The album is chock full of angry yet funny lyrics. If you like the early Queers I'd highly recommend this album although the Riptides are a little bit heavier than that. Anyway this CD won't be leaving my CD player for some time to come. I wish I would have heard of these guys earlier because all there early records are out of print now. A must buy album.
