Me First

(Blake Sennett From Rilo Kiley; Appearances By Ozma, Azure Ray, Arlo, And Postal Service Members)

Sub Pop 636

Released on February 3, 2004

This is the new project from Blake Sennett, co-singer/songwriter of Rilo Kiley. "Me First" includes the help of members from the Postal Service, Azure Ray, Rilo Kiley, Ozma, and many others. It incorporates everything from lap steel to melodic, glitchy electronics. A compelling, cinematic framework for Sennett's exemplary songwriting.

After seeing The Elected live and really hearing the music, I decided to buy "Me First". It's a great release, especially if your a fan of Rilo Kiley or Death Cab For Cutie. There's a lot of pedal steel, trumpet, and other instruments that really make this a different but creative release. Good band.

I got this cd because of the great reviews i had read and because of the tie's with the postal service and rilo kiley. I am a bit of a saddle creek fanatic. But anyway, i was a bit dissapointed when i listened to it. The hype was definantly just that and it made me have way too high of expectations. Not to say it isn't good though. I listen to it regularly. So, try it.

Amazing. I originally bought this album when I saw the Elected with Azure Ray and Neva Dinova in Boston, but there was a black spot on the CD so tracks two and three skipped a lot (probably my favorite tracks, in addition to number 8), so I bought another copy. The CD is THAT GOOD. If you're not willing to buy it twice, then face it, you suck. I mean, this is Blake Sennett we're talking if you like Rilo Kiley, you'll totally like this. Blake is incredible...he writes sick songs and plays in two of my favorite bands, he was Ronnie Pinsky on Salute Your Shorts (aka best tv show EVER), he was Joey on Boy Meets World, and the other day I was watching 3rd Rock From the Sun...and he guest appeared on that too! He's the kind of guy who will never cease to entertain me, a true renaissance man. But anyway, The Elected definitely have an interesting style, the lap steel gives a lot of the songs a sort of Hawaiian / country western feel. That’s something you don’t hear often, and I’m surprised that any band could bridge the gap between country western and indie rock and make it enjoyable...for me anyway. So in conclusion, EVERYONE should own this CD, even if you’re not into Rilo Kiley. This is a different style all together. Blake Sennett is amazing. Blake Sennett is my hero. Salute Your Shorts = BEST TV SHOW EVER. Buy this's dank. I <3 San.
