Fire Theft

Fire Theft

(Members From Sunny Day Real Estate, Foo Fighters)

Rykodisc 106422

Released on September 23, 2003

This item is not available for purchase. Sorry!

The Fire Theft is Jeremy Enigk, William Goldsmith and Nate Mendel (still of the Foo Fighters of course), but ‘The Fire Theft’ isn’t another ‘Diary’ – this is about as far away from Sunny Day Real Estate as you could get without having the trio resort to anti-folk. Enigk’s vocals remain the same – sky-high but dripping with more passion than any of the emo bands that SDRE spawned could ever hope for – but musically ‘The Fire Theft’ is awash with shades of Pink Floyd, The Beach Boys (seriously!), and Jane’s Addiction. Basically it’s perfect pop-rock, albeit coupled with a level of prog inflences. Enigk remarked recently that ‘The Fire Theft’ is “really dark”, but it’s full of more hope than any other debut this reviewer has heard in some time. Yes, this is partially due to the trio’s obvious experience, but it’s also down to the fact that you simply won’t hear another record like this all year – classic pop with a killer twist. Difficult to digest at first it may be, especially for hardcore SDRE fans, but given time you’ll find ‘The Fire Theft’ a most delectable dish.

so just like everyone else who purchased this, i am a big sunny day real estate fan. This is nothing like sdre, and i didn't expect it to be. after hearing talk about a band called the fire theft, which was suposedly jeremy enigk's new band, i decided to listen to some mp3's. when i heard the mp3's i liked what i heard. so i bought the cd.This cd is very good, it's not like sdre but it's still really good, and jeremy's vocals sound very good. i also heard a bunch of poeple say that the lyrics arent good, but they are, not as good as sdre, but still very good. so anyway buy this cd, if you're a fan of sdre or if you want to hear some really good music. also try not to compare this to sdre, i just did, but this a review. anyway, just buy it it's well worth the money.
