Before the athletics dep't got ahold of it, this is what hardcore sounded like. Raw, no frills, and pissed as hell. While mostly noted for John Bannon's drill sergeant style vocals, It's the McCulloch brothers who power the machine that was Negative Approach. While all the studio material is great, it's the Tied Down album sessions that are the proverbial jewels in the crown. No, the fourteen live cuts are not major lable quality, but the band's energy overcomes the lacklustre recordings and besides, it's a cool peek into another era. To quote Tesco Vee: "Buy or fry, weenbag!"

Jeff(NOT Cheryl),This album is more punk than hardcore...Kinda reminds me of early AF...Songs 12 through 21 are the best..."Nothing" is my favorite! Songs 22-32 and 36-38 are kinda raw because they are recorded live...Four Stars!

Negative Approach is easily one of the best early hardcore bands around this band is awesome. this is not melodic, this is not clean, this is not some deep death metal type vocals, this is true raging hardcore. simple distorted and and uber fucking pissed. dont call your self hardcore if you dont have a true love for these guys the songs at the end are different but amazing and an amazing cover of Ive gotta right" and that other song by blitz. Oi! isnt any good til its been fused with hardcore

I don't think there was a more angry sounding hardcore band in the early 80's than Negative Approach. John Brannon's vocals are so harsh, but not enough to make the first half of the CD unlistenable. The second half on the other hand is very badly recorded live tracks that are worth a listen, but nothing to get excited about. Like many of you have already said, the songs from their first 7" are the best ones, but the Tied Down LP has some good songs as well. If you're an early 80's hardcore purist than you must own this, and to me they're up there with JFA, Adolescents, Minor Threat, etc. as one of the best in the first wave of american hardcore.

One of the best hc/punk bands ever, just keep in mind before getting this cd is that the quality is horrible for most of the cd. the studio tracks are good but there's more live stuff on this than studio stuff and that's not good, so if you buy it you probably won't listen to it all that much but it's just cool to own, a piece of hardcore history i guess you can say

amazing. this would be one of the top ten greatest hardcore bands for sure. towards the middle of the cd you could see the metal influences, but its still good. the live recordings are horrible, which makes them fun to listen to. great cd, great price

The live stuff aint that great but its worth the purchase just for the tied down album which is included here in full. Fast and pissed off to the maximum early 80's hardcore, reminisant to Minor threat. Kill your idols get compared to them alot and I can see why.
