I'm really glad they decided to re-issue this. This wonderful little album contains Peel sessions, unreleased songs, live stuff plus rare b-sides and covers.
Although the majority of songs never appeared on albums, they maintain a high quality level throughout.
The packaging is also really nice. I gave it a four rather than a five because, at over 70 minutes in length, it's a little bit too much to absorb in one sitting. Don't let that put you off, Jawbox were a special band, who deserve to be remembered; and what better way to remember them than this?
If you don't already know, Jawbox were a sadly underappreciated, skillful post-punk band, who played complex and passionate songs. Their sound was a mixture of Fugazi, Naked Raygun and My Bloody Valentine. The songs on this record range from tense and menacing with raw and jagged guitars, to dreamy, layered songs which are just as thrilling and vital as the as the cathartic explosions.
Overall, a satsifying record from a phenominal band.
