MATES OF STATE are the ultra-likeable, uber-intriguing duo of Jason Hammel and Kori Gardner. The couple is a non-stop touring presence whose live chemistry is genuinely magical. He sits behind the drum kit and sings, she plays a vintage Yamaha organ and sings; many dynamic exchanges take place between them--both spoken and unspoken. Now, on their third album, THE MATES' have found the perfect studio environment to capture their explosive live sound.
The album, Team Boo, was recorded and mixed over three weeks at both WILLIE NELSON's Pedernales and Jim Eno's The Garage studios. Manning the knobs were Jim Eno (of SPOON) and John Croslin (who did MATES' first record My Solo Project, and has worked with SPOON, BEULAH, GUIDED BY VOICES, WAYLON JENNINGS and more). The songs go from dancey and crazy, to simple and sweet. Without a doubt, this is their most infectious and versatile record yet, and will be one of this autumn's most anticipated indie releases.
