Level Plane is very excited to join forces with BRIGHT CALM BLUE to release their latest six-song EP. Hailing from Lincoln, NE, these four gentlemen have been causing a bit of a buzz in the DIY hardcore scene over the last couple of years. Their debut LP, Assymetry Set, released last year caught the attention of many fans of screamy hardcore, and their US tour supporting the LP etched their sound into the minds of unsuspecting viewers with their frantic and powerful live show. After recovering from the loss of their vocalist, the band has returned with a new collection of songs and an updated sound that expands on their original sonic assault and adds an entirely new dimension to their vocal approach.
The propulsive rhythm section and driving, intricate guitar work combined with the now more controlled and melodic vocal stylings make Direct Approach for Casual Conversation an exciting and diverse release for the Nebraska foursome. With influences from 400 YEARS to FUGAZI, and from the POLICE to YES, BRIGHT CALM BLUE utilizes eclecticism, impassioned vocals and bombastic rhythmic possibilities to create a textured and moving brand of rock that will refresh an already healthy interest in the band.

It was about a year since the last time I had even listened to Bright Calm Blue, then I found out back in April that they have a new release. That gets me all excited, of course. Then I get a 60-Song compilation from Building Records [AUS] in the mail with the track "Static" on it, and I knew instantly I had to get this release ASAP. So I did, and I was very glad. Very well thought-out release longtime-coming from a great Midwest band. A little less screamy than their older material, but I like it just as much, if not more.

I havn't listend to this CD much yet but I like it quite a bit. It's a really good CD to listen to when you're hyper. Theres so much energy packed into this math rockish album. Whenevr I pop it in my CD player I just want to get up and dance. I havn't heard asymetry set, so I dont really have any advice to give you compairing and contrasting the two. Just listen to the sound clip. If ya like it and got some extra cash buy it.
And I apologize for the terrible spelling on this review

Ian, Bright Calm Blue's old vocalist, isn't in the band anymore, so if you liked Asymmetry Set, you might want to download a track or two from this release before purchasing. Not as much screaming as Asymmetry Set, and the vocals are a lot more clear, but that just makes some of the songs a lot more catchy. It may be only six tracks long, but most of the songs clock over three minutes, and some over four. It's a totally different sound, but I recommend it.
