Star Strangled Bastards

Whose War Is It?

Go Kart 92

Released on January 28, 2003

Southern California was once well known as a breeding ground for some of the best punk rock acts ever. Black Flag, Germs, Adolescents, Fear - the list could go on and on. Nowadays, bands of that caliber are hard to come by. But finally, California has produced a new band worthy enough to fit in with the past punk rock elite. Star Strangled Bastards are that band. Like an out of control steamroller running at full speed, these guys spit out enough anger and energy to make Stiv Bators smile from up above. Think Poison Idea (minus a few hundred pounds), Discharge, Chaos U.K. and Motorhead all rolled into one. Star Strangled Bastards are here to tear your worthless punk soul apart!

Something big and nasty got stuck up inside these guys and this album is their enema. Very text book hardcore & aggressive punk. I say it sounds like all the things I love about GWAR without the theatrics or silliness. I agree with the above references for this band, but I would also check out Dr. Know, Broken Bones, Zeke, Toxic Narcotic, Casualties, and of course Minor Threat if you like these guys. Kindof reminds me of the Skatenigs too (in a weird way), but the songs don't differentiate enough for a fourth star. Still a decent offering for fans of the genre.
