An Evening of Extraordinary Circumstance is a DVD that captures just what the title implies.
Back in October of 2009, The Lawrence Arms commemorated their 10th anniversary
by playing an epic 2 hour show to a sold out audience at The Metro, in their hometown of
Chicago. Given TLA’s status as the reigning kings of Midwest punk rock, not to mention the
legend of their live shows, you can bet your britches that the anticipation and hype surrounding
the event were enormous. Well, long story short, the guys triumphantly obliterated all
expectations with a 33 song set list that featured all the hits, as well as a few songs that they’d
never performed live before. Naturally, all of this rock was peppered with Brendan’s world
famous on-stage banter (which is a show in itself), and topped off with god damn matching
outfits!!! It was really something to behold. Luckily, for all those not fortunate enough to
attend this mythical event, the entire show was filmed and can now be relived through this
DVD. This footage isn’t just some stationary shot from someone’s iPhone either. There were
6 different professional cameramen running around the joint capturing every conceivable
angle. Every bit of the audio was mixed by Matt Allison (Alkaline Trio, Smoking Popes) too,
so you know the quality on this thing is choice. Of course, the DVD features plenty of bonus
material too, including an equally hilarious and informative band commentary that spans
the entire length of the show, footage and interviews with fans, and 5 music videos. Oh, and
for those good at hunting “Easter eggs”, there is footage of The Lawrence Arms entire first
show(!!!) on there too. Basically, the An Evening of Extraordinary Circumstance DVD is a
TLA fan’s wet dream. Yep, we said it.
