Sweeter than maple syrup and at times more mysterious than
Ogopogo, Canada’s finest pop-punk export, CHIXDIGGIT!, are
back with their latest masterpiece, Safeways Here We Come.
With nearly six years having passed since their last release the
anticipation for new material is at a crescendo and Safeways is
exactly what fans have been pining for. Every track on Safeways
Here We Come is quintessential CHIXDIGGIT! Each song
bristles with the trademark up tempo, straight forward, guitar
driven, pop punk sound that CHIX have become famous for. As
always, not only does KJ (singer/guitarist) belt out absolutely
unforgettable melodies, but the topical content of the album is as
varied, intriguing, and downright cheeky as ever. His knack for
turning everyday events and situations into hilarious lyrics,
peppered with social commentary, is uncanny. From a song
about an en vogue hair style dubbed the “rat”, to a comedic
refrain about disliking a friend’s dog, Safeways has it all and of
course it is delivered in KJ’s unmistakable screechy tenor.
Safeways Here We Come encompasses everything that
CHIXDIGGIT! fans could ever want in an album, providing a
welcome reprieve from all the over-conceptualized, genrespecific
music littering the punk scene today, and once again
proving that sometimes simple, fast, and fun is all you need to
make a perfect album.
