Fat Music Vol 7: Harder, Fatter & Louder! (Double)
Fat Wreck Chords 707622
Released on November 23, 2010
|
With the conception of the FAT MUSIC series of compilations,
starting with Fat Music For Fat People and including the classics
Survival of the Fattest and Live Fat, Die Young, Fat Wreck Chords
established one of the most recognized branding campaigns and
simultaneously spawned a niche market within the punk genre.
Throughout the 90’s and early 2000’s Fat comps became the gold
standard of label comps and were a phenomenon amongst punk
fans. The easily discernable quality of each release in the FAT
MUSIC series elevated them from the quagmire of comps
compiled in a ham-handed fashion, with no regard for the merit of
the album as a whole. The value associated with the FAT MUSIC
series is manifest in the fact that each release has done upwards
of 200,000 in sales. Despite all this success, the series was put on
the back burner for quite a few years, but so much has transpired
over the past 8 years, with a bevy of new acts being ushered into
the Fat fold(s), that it seemed appropriate to resurrect the FAT
MUSIC tradition. The result is the 7th installment of the series,
Harder, Fatter + Louder! The album consists of 22 tracks that run
the gamut from our some of our newest upstart bands like Old
Man Markley, Banner Pilot, TBR, Cobra Skulls, and The Flatliners,
to some of our established heavy hitters including NOFX, Against
Me, NUFAN, Strung Out, and The Lawrence Arms. While the cover
art is a bit of a departure from all the other illustrated covers in the
series, the content is exactly what fans have come to expect,
including 5 as yet unreleased tracks, filled out by recently
released hits from all the label favorites. Harder, Fatter + Louder!
is relentless from start to finish, displaying why Fat has ascended
to its current level and how it has earned a new generation of fans
while maintaining the old.
