we all miss hot water music and their last full length cd is a dissapointment compared to their other work...still a great album though
it happened to get a bit boring to me though after a week or two

I thought this album was good, not my favorite though. There are a few stand out tracks however I think I am more partial to their older albums...

if you like hot water music you should definitely pick this album up. chuck's vocals are gruffy as hell and full of southern rage. hot water music works hard as hell to release this stuff.. it doesn't kick ass for no reason. buy it! you won't regret it !!!

This was a pretty good cd but its not as good as "Flight and a crash" or "Caution". The End of the line was a pretty cool song. I am confident that they can put out a better cd next time around.

We all know that HWM can play better than this, still, it is a good album with some cool moments, but i can help feeling this is the sound of a great band playing average songs

Hmmm where should I begin? Well there are a very good amount of songs on The New What Next that are very strong songs and will probably end up being Hot Water Music future classics, but there are a few songs on this CD right before the end that just prevent this album from being perfect. Poison is a brilliant song with great lyrics and an awesome melody; it just pains me that HWM didn't play this song when I saw them live. End Of The Line is another great song with a great melody and a rocking riff. All Heads Down has another great riff. My Little Monkey Wrench is sweetly melodic tune with excellent lyrics. Under Everything is your typical HWM song but its still good. There Are Already Roses is my favorite track; this is another song that I wish HWM would have played live when I saw them in concert. Keep It Together is not great but it's good enough. I think The Ebb And Flow is when things start to go a little down hill. Bottomless Seas and Ink And Lead also drag down this part, I think maybe its because you got all these slower tempo songs all in a row. Maybe they should have changed the tracklisting around or replaced one of the slower songs with a faster song. Well once This Early Grave and Giver kick in it closes the album on a strong note. I just think that tracks 7-10 are weaker songs compared to the rest of the tracks which are just the type of awesome songs that you'd expect from Hot Water Music.
So overall I'd give this album a pretty high recommendation despite the 3-4 songs on here that aren't as strong as the rest of the material on here. Hot Water Music fans will still enjoy, and I think even those new to Hot Water Music would even enjoy this album very much but I'd still defiantly recommend purchasing Caution and Fuel For The Hate Game before this one.

dont get me wrong, i love hot water music. they are one of my favorite bands. their live show is amazing. they are super nice guys, and they have put out some of the most amazing records of our time. but this one seemed to have a little something missing. i dunno. i like it, its really fucking good, but something still isnt there. you should get it if your a fan of any size, but not a first record for a new fan.

After listening to this record for a few days i must say that i'm a little disappointed. There are to many anonymous songs on it compared to previous HMW records. There are only two or maybe three songs that i really like. Tracks 4 and 6 are great, but a lot of the remaining tracks come off as fillers and somewhat boring. I'd recomend No Division or Caution over this one. It's pretty mediocre and i strongly disagree that this is their finest work yet, but they're still one of my favorite bands
