Riptides

Hang Out

(featuring Joe Queer of the Queers)

Released on November 7, 2006

This item is not available for purchase. Sorry!

Ottawa's Riptides are ready to get serious. This newest full length was recorded by Mass Giorgini at Sonic Iguana (Rise Against, Anti-Flag, Screeching Weasel, etc.), and he has 'em sounding better than ever. These Canucks are dialed in, and they even got Joe Queer to show up and sing lead vocals on the song "China Doll". The finest in Canadian punk rock, gabba gabba eh! "Limited edition Hot Pink vinyl 12-inch!"

after a few times of playing this, i really grew to appreciate it. fast, snotty, hard-hitting punk, with an occasional song about a girl. a great record all the way through. you don't need an open mind to enjoy this band. it is also produced by mass, so you know it's good.

You pretty much know what you're in for when there's a pic of Chuck Taylors on the the cover. Most of the songs are Ramonesy 3-minute slabs filled with plenty of hooks and catchy sing-a-long choruses. The highlights are "That Girl", "Detention", and "China Doll" with Joe Queer on vocals. This song is easily the standout track on the album and it could have easily fit on Munki Brain or Punk Rock Confidential. While I could have done without some of the more aggressive songs like "Red Dawn" (which border on Sick Of It All-style hardcore), this is mostly a damn good pop punk album that fans of The Ramones or The Queers will like.

The Riptides play some of the best modern pop-punk. I fucking love them. I saw them live with The Queers and I met them all, they are so cool(we made fun of The Heart Attacks). They sound like Motorhead, The Ramones and The Queers mixed together in a blender-of-awesomeness.

It opens up with "That Girl", which is a damn fine song. My favorites are "China Doll"(with Joe Mutherfucking Queer), "Red Dawn"(Which I sang at the show), "Detention" and "I Wanna Riot". Every song is good in its own right, but those are the ones that really stood out.

I swear to satan, if Red Scare can out another record like this I will worship that label.

Plus, how cant you buy a cd with some chucks on the front???

I'm not sure what issues the last reviewer had with this record, but I couldn't disagree more.

Not only is this the best record I've heard off Red Scare, but it is probably the best pop-punk record I've heard in years. Every single song is great. I highly recommend it over alot of the crap that's out there.

These guys are fucking terrible. No even joe Queer can save this sinking pile of shit. Its too bad because RedScare has released pure gold up until this.

I had never heard the Riptides music before getting this. Now let me tell you something! When you see a pair of Chuck Taylor Classic All Star shoes on the cover of a CD you expect the band to have a certain sound like the Ramones. However, this band sounds like a cross between Motorhead and the Queers if you can imagine that! Joe Queer sings lead vocals on an awesome song called "China Doll"! Also check out the song "Red Dawn" good stuff!
