Between the Buried and Me

The Silent Circus (with DVD)

Victory 268.2

Released on October 3, 2006

Bonus DVD includes live performances, music videos and interviews.

BETWEEN THE BURIED AND ME is a monolith. They are a force of nature that balances the organic and serene with the savage and uninhibited. From break-neck hardcore and death metal to a fusion of complicated progressive rock to lush shoe-gazing ambience, this band has become one of the most celebrated bands of the metal and hardcore underworld...

But let’s rewind three years to 2003…In a strange way, this is where it all started. BETWEEN THE BURIED AND ME partnered with VICTORY RECORDS and released The Silent Circus. It is within the confines of this humble record that we really catch a glimpse at the genius and potential of the band. Its the middle ground of their career; the cocoon stage of their metamorphosis that started with their chaotic progressive hardcore self titled debut in 2002 up to 2005’s breakthrough masterpiece, Alaska.

Anybody that knows Between the Buried and Me knows that "Silent Circus" is their best album so far. If you haven't seen these guys live, like me, then this is a really good buy. I already have the regular copy, but this one shows an interview, some music videos, and live performances. The live performance is pretty boring to watch. It's no Killswitch Engage type of show. So no 30 year-old running around in short-shorts, but I think these guys are more focused on their sound. And they sound amazing. Dust-ball rips it up with some laughs in the interview, and the guy interviewing them is funny looking.

Silent Circus is an incredible album, technical music at its finest. And while the DVD is short, it contains a near-flawless live performance done in their hometown including (in order), Lost Perfection (both A and B), Destructo Spin, Roboturner, All Bodies, Mordecai (which is spelled wrong in the booklet, niceee), and Alaska. Really worth it considering its 11 bucks.
