From Anger And Rage
Rival
Released on August 1, 2006
|
From the depths of an angry, lost generation's
heart and soul comes the new CD/LP from
VERSE entitled From Anger And Rage.
Serving as a follow up to the band's Rebuild
CD/LP (Rivalry Records, August 2004), the
new album is a manifestation of the band's
growth, reflection, and their struggle to speak
out against a world that is suffocating, silencing,
and invalidating an entire mass of resistant
voices. The song writing is more cohesive than
ever, hitting harder, heavier, and with much
more focus. The vocals are angrier, more
personal, more desperate than those of the
past, venomously lashing out at the status
quo, pleading with the silenced and the fearful
to rise and embrace the strength in our
numbers. For those still burning inside, take
heart: from anger and rage comes rebellion.

Upon first listen of this cd i thought "well it's solid, first 4 songs are weak then it picks up" and thought the latter part of the cd was the best.......even though I still thought really only songs 5,7&11 were the only 5 star songs. But I figured i'd better give it once more listen. This is definitely a second listen with all ears to realize it's not only A. great hardcore cd and B. Their best. Best production wise, lyrically and by musicianship. My complaint however is how on some songs they end unexpectedly when they could go on to be the albums best, and song 9 which is simply a filller, nearly 30 second intro track that should've been a whole song. If you love melodic, heartfelt hardcore with something valuable to say (and yes some mosh parts.) or just a Verse fan then pick this up. I would however, and sorry Verse, say that if you're into this type of hardcore pick up the new Have Heart cd first - probably one of the best hardcore cd's to come out in a few years and is in this same style.

This is a great CD. Some of the songs are a little slower, but then they make up for it by going into fast parts. There are also a lot of parts without vocals and completely instrumental song, which is pretty cool. Standout tracks are Weather To A Stone, We Were Here, Stolen, and Follow Conform Repeat.

Another kickass band on Rivalry Records, these guys show more diversity than most of their counterparts. Currently developing into one of the leaders in hardcore today. I expect more good things from them. Oh, and pick this up.
