Raised Fist

Sound Of The Republic

Burning Heart

Released on May 23, 2006

This item is not available for purchase. Sorry!

Raised Fist takes their name from a song by Rage Against the Machine, and since 1993 they have followed in their footsteps, walking a steady line between political hardcore and intense metal. Their fourth full-length, Sound of the Republic finds the band rising to new heights, building on their cult status and rave reviews from Kerrang to NME. With Sound of the Republic, Raised Fist takes their brutal hardcore to a new level, completely destroying all boundaries- this is the new sound of the Raised Fist republic!

The first Raised Fist album I bought. I'm not really a fan of hardcore; most of it seems to be too simplistic and repetitive (I think the clip of "You Ignore Them All" is fairly representative of hardcore). I heard "Get This Right!" on Punk-o-Rama 8 and, while the first half is pretty standard hardcore, the second half of the song intrigued me. On Sound Of The Republic, Raised Fist use a variety of rhythms to keep you interested. Alexander's voice is probably "love it or hate it". I think it fits the aggression of the music well and he can convey a lot of emotion with his screaming. Between Sound of the Republic and Dedication (the two albums I have) I like Sound better. Dedication is harder overall with some fantastic riffs; Sound of the Republic is more creative and less repetitive. The title track reminds me of Rage Against the Machine (if they were hardcore), "Killing It" is hard-hitting, and "Sunlight" is just brutal. The only track that could be tossed out is the last track "Time will let you go..." which is just odd.

When writing a review for the newest album with Raised Fist, I have to say... This band is crazy when they preform LIVE...! I´ve only seen then once, but I´ll have to see them again. Their new album "Sound of The Republic" is to my point of view not the best they´ve done. I like some of the tracks, but hope to see a newer album with more "old stuff". At said before, the band has become more successful over the years, with its aggressive music and vocals today considered as one of the most energetic liveacts to be found. I also read somewhere, that the drummer used 42 microphones in the album "DEDICATION"!!! This really shows how crazy these swedish people are.

Another killer release from these swedish legends. They still maintained that agressive and hardcore sound on this release, which was a must. I still have to say that Ignoring the Guidelines is their best work up to date. This one is close by just like the others though. You'll hear a lot of old RF on this but some new ideas are worth hearing too, such as parts in Sound of the Republic and Killing It. All of Raised Fist's releases deserve the highest ratings.
