Wow, and I used to hate ska when I was younger and dumber. Specifically the song Keasbey Nights, which is now one of my favorites from this record along with, well, pretty much all the songs. I think I might even buy the original from Catch 22 now, I don't care if it's the same record.

Good album, but I was expecting more. Obviously the recording is cleaner and the songs are more polished, but wasn't the rawness and intensity of the original Keasbey Nights part of it's appeal? Take that away and you've got this. It's good, but not nearly great. Disappointing overall from a band which is synonymous with excellence.

i just bought this out of pure curiosity because i've owned the original for years..i really wanted to see if the supposed "superior musicianship" could make 'keasbey nights,' one of my favorite albums, even better..and the answer is no..the raw sound of the original is what makes it so good..if you're going to buy one buy the original..although either version is a good investment..i'd give the original a 5 and this one a 4..out

All in all, this is a pretty awesome remake of Keasbey Nights. It may not have that certain "spunk" that thrived in original, but it is nonetheless a terrific record. The sound has matured greatly, with better vocals as well as much better horns, not to mention a greater quality in recording. As most have said so far, if you're new to Keasbey Nights, I would buy the original first. But I would most definitely recommend this new recording to any Streetlight fan, or just any ska fan in general.

I think people are being too hard on this album. Yes, it does lack the youthful energy of the original release, but that is not the point of this record. It was produced to prevent a rerelease of the original album that would be untouched sonically (Tom Kalnoky was not satisfied with the original recordings) and with different art or a few new tracks or something to get people that had already purchased the album to waste their money purchasing it again. This way people that love the original Keasby Nights and Streetlight Manifesto can get something legitimately new/different. And yes, if you are completely new to Keasby Nights you should get the original 1998 version as it is a masterpiece, but that should not take away that this is still a great record.

Well...it's a bit different from the original, but nothing drastic. There are some added lyrics and some bonus horns and the production is better, but it lacks the count-offs and "heps" during the songs that i enjoy so much. Most noticable during "Keasbey Nights"
the new record just lacks character....i guess!
If you are looking to buy KN, get the original 1st....and if your interested or curious enough to hear a different version (like i am) pick this up as well.
