SLEEPING DOGS started in NYC in the early 80's playing their purely original brand of punk damaged, political rock with an artistic slant. The 2 main stays of the band were Bad Boy (a woman) who sang with an searing, emotional urgency and Dirty Dog who played drums and other percussion with a brutal rhythmic force. After a move to San Francisco SLEEPING DOGS ended up recording a 7" for the Crass Records label in 1982. They were one of only 2 American based bands to have such an honor. All 4 of those 7" tracks which happen to include Penny Rimbaud and Phil Free from CRASS are on this cd as well as demos and live tracks from 82 until they changed their name to BRAINRUST in 1986. The BRAINRUST tracks on this cd which were recorded in 1989 carry on the SLEEPING DOGS sound with no change in members. By the way, their drummer Dirty Dog created the CRASS logo (not to mention the Broken Rekids and Mordam logos too)!
