Smoke And Mirrors

Second Nature 53

Released on May 25, 2004

This item is not available for purchase. Sorry!

In five short years, Kansas City's CASKET LOTTERY have released a lustrous collection of more than sixty recorded songs, including four full-length albums, two EPs, and countless compilation and 7" contributions. As their final planned release, Smoke and Mirrors brings THE CASKET LOTTERY back to the studio with the ever-present Ed Rose (THE GET UP KIDS, COALESCE, REGGIE AND THE FULL EFFECT, LIMBECK, and MOTION CITY SOUNDTRACK) for four new songs that reflect passionately on the breadth of their pioneering angular, arduous, and melodic five-year history. This is the final release from THE CASKET LOTTERY.

This album is amazing! Ten Years is probably one of my top five all time favorite Casket Lottery songs ever. Smoke and Mirrors picks up exactly where Survival Is For Cowards left off, a bit dark and a bit louder, they still stick to their math rock roots. All ups, but there has to be a bit of down: The lyrics in Come Sweet Revenge, I personally believe are a bit lame. But this CD gets and deserves five stars. If you are a Casket Lottery fan, purchase this CD. It will be a 20 minutes well spent.

This one didnt have the same casket lottery sound ive been used to. More of a poppier sound. But none the less it grows on you and you realize that its good. therefore purchase it

Wow, this CD is a huge departure from their older releases. IT's much more angrier, faster, and harder. There's a bit of screaming in it too. Like Interpunk's review, it's a relection of their history and time as The Casket Lottery, and some of it isn't so pretty. It seems like this will be the last we'll hear from The Casket Lottery unfortunately. These guys were one of the best finds in the past 4 years for me. I love their old stuff to death. Expect more hooks and harder riffs here too. Get it if you like their older stuff, but if you're starting out get Moving Mountains.

I'll certainly miss 'em. Check out Old Canes too.
