Ghost Reveries

Road Runner 8123

Released on September 13, 2005

“With the announcement that Swedish progressive metal guru's, Opeth, have yet again changed record labels, this time from Koch Records to a more well known Roadrunner Records, rumors spread like wildfire that the band will no doubt succumb to the label executives and release radio friendly, commercially accessible music. The band's fate was being predicted soley on the fact that they put themselves with the company of such bands as Slipknot, Nickleback, and other bands that are moving more towards (or are already dead in the middle of) the mainstream. Many believed the new album that the band had been so hard at work on, entitled "Ghost Reveries", would end up being a "Damnation part 2" and have more of the strictly clean vocal styles and mellow guitar work. Upon the release of a radio-recorded single of a song called "The Grand Conjuration" from the new album, many fears were put to rest about the future of Opeth....This album, which is actually a concept album focusing on occult themes (which Akerfeldt hasn't written about in about 15 years) is one of the best of the year. It has the sound that we missed and longed for for so many years. The pummeling, yet vinrantly beautiful guitars, low end and drummming that match perectly provided by drummer Martin Lopez and bassist Martin Mendez, and brilliantly placed keyboard parts from Wiberg, all bring the album together in one of the most satisfying experiences ever felt in an Opeth album. Opeth is back with full force with "Ghost Reveries", and once they tour and play more of these songs live, expect the songs to just get better.” - Jessie /
