Named by Alternative Press as one of the “100 Bands You Need
To Know in 2004” (March 2004), Northstar deliver their
sophomore effort Pollyanna, the much anticipated follow-up to
Is This Thing Loaded? (over 20,000 sold). Produced by Matt Squire
(The Explosion, Bleu, Orange Island), Pollyanna shows how
non-stop touring has matured the band as musicians and
songwriters. The album is a powerful mix of sounds that bridges
the gap between today’s punk rock, emo and pop music to create
an album that will turn heads. Alternative Press hit the nail on the
head calling the Northstar’s music “catchy but complex post-punkemocore
with more unexpected mood swings than a daycare
center.”
Since the release of their debut album in the fall of ’02 the band
has maintained a relentless road warrior attitude towards shows.
With over 200 gigs with indie stalwarts Taking Back Sunday, The
Starting Line, Brand New, Rufio, Motion City Soundtrack and RX
Bandits as well as numerous headlining shows, Northstar only
took a break to record Pollyanna. This non-stop touring has helped create a rabid fan base who have dubbed themselves The Northstar Army who are ready and eager for Pollyanna.

This is a very good pop punk album. It just doesn't do much for me. Sure, I like all the songs, and they're all really catchy. I just don't find myself wanting to listen to it much. Check out the acoustic version of For Members Only, though. Nick's voice is so melty in it. -Domenic

This is a great album. I go back and forth between thinking this album or Northstar's first album is better. Tracks like Pollyanna, American Living, and Two Zero Two make this CD amazing. Northstar has unique, creative lyrics delivered in a package of awesome music. I think they stand out from a lot of other bands in their genre, so I would definitely get both of their albums. I hesitate to give any album a rating of 5, but this one is pretty close. Taking Back Sunday may have been right when they called Northstar "the greatest band ever." Buy this album and decide for yourself.

This is a great release by Northstar. They came out with a more laid back approach than they did with "is this thing loaded". This cd is strong lyrically and will definitely have a lot of replay time in your cd player. The best sophmore release since "deja entendu". For all fans of taking back sunday.Well worth your money. buy it now!!!

wow this is an awesome release...this was the first i had heard of northstar, but after one listen i had to go by there first release. i am not one to give out 5 stars very easily...but these guys, along w/ "the format" have been in constant circulation in my cd player. i hate to compare bands to other bands...these guys do have there own sound...but i can see some similiarity between these guys and tbs...and i know tbs thinks this is one of the best bands out there. it's just really catchy rock n' roll, and the lead singer has an awesome voice. only a few songs on this that i skip over. definitly check this out, along w/ the format if you haven't already heard of them.
