Screeching Weasel

My Brain Hurts (Reissue)

Asian Man 120

Released on March 22, 2005

This item is not available for purchase. Sorry!

Chicago's Screeching Weasel generally has a polarizing effect on most punk fans- either you love their amateurish, tuneful Ramones imitation and singer/guitarist Ben Weasel's smartass-suburbanite, often pop cultured-oriented lyrics, or you hate them. Well, for those of you who love them, we offer you the re-release of My Brain Hurts. Having sold over 125,000 copies since it's release in 1991, legions of new and old fans will be jumping through hoops to get this classic punk album.

• Re-mastered by Mass Giorgini (Sonic Iguana)
• New liner notes by band members
• New, never before seen photos

i wouldn't say this is the best album they did, but it's one of their better records. it is actually a classic record. the sound quality is much better on this than the original, also you can hear more bass than before. i think all these reissues were a great idea, and done well by mass. this would be a great record to start off with if you are new to the band, but not their best. get all of them if you can.

The remastering of this album has turned a great screeching weasel album into a classic. the reissue was the best idea ever.

This is good. Nothing that will blow your mind but still a fun listen. I can tell that this is influential to many pop-punk bands around currently (blink, green day etc.) and also much better. Because this same thing has been done many many other times this loses some impact but if your going to listen to pop-punk you should listen to the original. This is my only SW album so I don't know how it compares but I've heard this is probably the best to start with.

Also, this reissue seems worth the money. Good liner notes. Lots of informative shit to read. The sound quality is good considering how old it is.

Screeching Weasel. The greatest band ever to come out of Chicago, and one of the greatest punk bands ever, EVER. How could you not love all of Ben Fosters work? The reissues are all pretty good, but real collectors already have all of the lookout releases as well.

In the insert for this album, Joe King of The Queers states that this is arguably the best album SW ever did (hafta disagree - this is DEFINITELY the best album they ever did, no bones about it) and that it proves that for one brief space in time they were the greatest band in the world. And you'll get no argument from me on the latter.

If you have not heard this album and call yourself a punk, you are a laughable dilettante pseudsoundslinger and need to creep off back to your Sum 41 and Blink 182 (who would not exist without SW, as King once again so correctly points out) albums and never darken this door again. My Brain Hurts is just a PERFECT album. It's one of the few albums I have that I can still listen to from start to finish, actually my all-time fave sonic platter, and I got it when it came out on Lookout in 1991! I mean, beautiful pop-punk tunes, crammed and jammed with slamming handclaps and childhood whoops and whistles and spunky keyboards and superb backing vocals and ooh-ah-ah-ah-oohs and whoah-ah-ah-ah-ohs and soaring swooping searing screeching laughing guitars...just NEVER go out of date.

It's interesting to me to know just how much of the album's sound is due to Danny Vapid's input, as the liner notes dictate; Ben Weasel and Vapid were a GREAT songwriting team, arguably SW's best, and it shows very clearly on this record. If I am in a bad mood I just stick on My Brain Hurts...and instantly am lifted above and beyond all the bullshit beating and bruising and battering and battling my beleaguered brain and all the hurts being inflicted on it by life.

Asian Man records have done a great job in remastering the songs, and the titular track almost sounds like a new amazing song; my hackles rose when I heard it, it's so enhanced and so much better. Seeing as how John Jughead's superb guitar on this album is such an integral part of the overall sonic-snowball-rolling-downhill-to-come-to-a-sated-stop-fourteen-songs-later sound (I mean, man, consider his awesome joyous bellring telltheworldthegoodnews solo in I Can See Clearly...and you know EXACTLY what I mean), it's unfortunate that he doesn't contribute any liner notes here, but the job done in the remix more than makes up for such a minor disappointment.

If you already have this album but not in this version, BUY IT. If you don't own this album, BUY IT.

I think you get the point.

Screeching Weasel, thank you for a true work of timeless happymaker sonic art and for the peerless years of enjoyment I have gotten from it.

Enough said.

G.

I bought it, skimmed it, and didn't really like what I was hearing. I didn't expect much from the cd, I just bought it 'cause the cover looked sweet. Television City Dreams is more my style. This CD is too slow.

This is a great record and is a fine addition to my screeching weasel collection! Kudos to Asian Man for re-releasing it. Screeching Weasel will go down as one of the most under rated bands ever. Without their contribution to punk rock and pop punk there would be no green day, no blink 182. They are that infleuntial right up there with the Ramones and The Descendents in my book. Anything Ben Weasel does is brilliant, and i got the SW logo on my arm to show my dedication. GET THIS CD NOW!!!!

Wow! Why did I wait so long to buy this cd. One of Screeching Weasels best. I haven't heard the Lookout release, so I can't really tell what the sound difference is. If you're trying to decide which Weasel cd to buy next, you can't go wrong with this one. The liner notes are somewhat interesting but nothing special.
