Magnolia Electric Co.

Trials And Errors

Secretly Canadian 98

Released on January 18, 2005

This item is not available for purchase. Sorry!

Recorded only a few months after they had formed, Trials & Errors captures Jason Molina's (SONGS: OHIA) new band Magnolia Electric Co. on one magical night in Brussels in 2003. It is a scintillating audio document of one of America's most important contemporary live acts evolving into something really special and doing what it does best - whipping an audience into a frenzy. This set captures Molina & Co right after Molina had retired the Songs: Ohia machine in favor of this powerful new vision of his. Join Magnolia Electric Co as they play their part in a long-standing tradition of touring musical artists (Lynard Skynard, Creedence Clearwater Revival, Bob Seger) that capture the spirit of their own homes, traditions and principles and communicate those through the chooglin' rock of ages on stage for rooms full of empassioned audiences 150+ nights a year.

This I by far the best CD I have ever heard out of this band. The recording is crisp and clear. I didn't even realize that this was a live CD at first Jason is dead on with the vocals and the guitar work is brutally beautiful. Each piece works in tandem to deliver feelings of loss and regret. This is the first record in a long time to really grab me and pull me in. He really explores the depths of human inadequacy and disappointment in both life and love. The songs are extremely powerful and hit that deep part of the soul where hurt and betrayal sit. This may not be a straight blues record but it feels like one. I couldn't recommend this more. Connor Oberst has shit on Jason Malina. Saddle Creek can eat a dick.
