Punk Rock Vol.2 CD

I've only 8 days left to write a review for this....It's not BAD as such, it features bands from Norway, Japan, Canada and the US, They're pretty competent...just nothing leaps out and 'grabs' you..Whereas 'Punk Rock Vol 1' had some real 'in your face punk/hardcore bands (Veteran Flashbax/Carter Peace Mission/The Throw Downs/Belvedere) which demanded your attention with their respective'brands' of punk/hardcore......I think, maybe the bands have a 'too polished, over produced, squeaky clean sound....I've heard a whole lot worse compilations in my time, believe me....but, nothing special here.

Hooray For Everything CD

I've had this cd for almost 12 months....What the fuck! I should have been listening to this constantly, instead of seeming to pass it by, for other probably inferior, cd's. This is an outstanding album...'hooks,harmonies,riffs,power,melody' It has them all, and serves them up to treat you toa great listening experience....maybe 3 or 4 listens to appreciate the quality and you'll be hooked....Buy it now!!!

Bottled Violence Comp CD

A 30 band 'DIY' comp cd...keeping the punk ethic of cheap/no frills releases...a sentiment sadly lacking from a lot of the so called punk bands/labels. This has some pretty fuckin' good bands on Sick Shift/Side Out/Burnside/Crash 81/Just like you/3rd man in/etc....A few listens and you'll wonder why a lot of these bands don't have the recognition they deserve...Buy this now, never mind shit like NOFX/RANCID/AVENGED SEVENFOLD/SCREECHING WEASEL et al....THIS is punk

We Don't Need Society - D.R.I. Tribute CD

Remember when DRI exploded onto the punk scene way back in 1983? They were just an absolute explosion of insanely fast and power packed hardcore punk......This tribute cd has 34 international bands paying homage...and, it's a fine fuckin' effort...if you've never heard DRI's Dirty Rotten/Dealing with it/Violent pacification releases..Kill yourself!....No, give this a listen and it will give you an idea of (though on a lesser scale than those early DRI releases)of what DRI were all about ie Seminal hardcore punk rock...

Much The Same
Quitters Never Win CD

Great release from this chicago band, solid, mid-tempo, guitar fuelled punk, great song structures with mostly heartfelt, personal type lyrics sung in a manner that tells you these guys believe in what they are doing.....Watch out for this band, surely they are destined for bigger things....Definitely a winner, get it now or miss out

Punk Chunks 1 CD

These cheap punk samplers are the best way to check out bands, there is nothing worse than paying out your hard earned on a cd of an unheard/but recommended by some half-wit in a zine or on a web site, band, and finding it is just a pile of shit.....So get yourself this sampler and decide what you like....This contains 28 bands ranging from ultra-heavyweight great punk bands to unknown minnows (who could easily be the next 'big' punk bands) Some great stuff on here Good riddance/guttermouth/less than jake/ten foot pole/homegrown..etc and with contributions from swedish punk kings No fun at all/ Satanic surfers/ astream and raised fist..plus less known acts like the great band Hope, all the bands are worth a listen especially Trigger happy/ Gob/ Big wig/ Whatever/ Beefcake....in fact everything on here is pretty decent.....One of the best compilations i own....Get it.

Pistol Grip
Shots From The Kalico Rose CD

Pretty good debut from pistol grip, musically this has obvious clash influences but with a bit of bands like the gc5, the beltones, swingin' utters, et al, This could easily be a mellower release by germany's kings of oi/street punk Oxymoron...if you like the whole brit punk/ sing a long/ street punk thing, this band is for you. Stand out tracks are the brilliant, anthemic opener Crucifixion politix, and the ultra catchy, multi vocal, Scoundrels....A few listens and this cd grows and grows on you...Fuck, yeah good stuff...

Popping The Punk Pinata CD

Pretty good cross section of punk styles on this comp...a few listens and 95% of the bands sound pretty good, standouts are Bailey-'punks have feelings too' which has a distinct Riverdales/Queers/Cretins feel to it, or does it? check it out....Dutch heavyweights Travoltas check in with 'american vitamin' obviously pop punk/catchy as fuck in this bands inimitable style....Great contributions too from 5c Deposit, Smackin' Isiah, The vastly underrated Ruths Hat, TBA. et al....The band Pain seem to me (my first taste of this band) to be harnessing vast quantities of creativity and talent..their contribution the clever 'Julie said futz' says to me that this band is ripe for the big time....Judge for yourself....A competent and credible release giving a wider exposure to some decent bands...

Strike Anywhere
Chorus Of One CD

Absolutely top notch stuff! Strike anywhere are most definitely at the very forefront of the social/political punk bands....This release has it all, power, speed, melody, harmony, intense, thought provoking lyrics....if you like your punk to come with a message...look no further....this albeit only six tracks, is one of the releases that truly deserve the description 'ESSENTIAL'..Buy it now, it won't dissapoint...destined to go down in punk history as a band with legendary status....Five stars musically but many more stars LYRICALLY....inspirational....

Avenged Sevenfold
Sounding The Seventh Trumpet CD

I've heard all the hype....Time to hear the band....Well, it's pretty interesting eclectic stuff....sometimes raging guitar, pounding drums with ultra gruff vocals....othertimes almost emo type 'sweet' melodic vocals and piano fueled ballad like tracks.....Some great power driven riffs....songs with tempo changes...My one big negative comment..."the ultra gruff 'metal' vocals get ultra tedious and ultra grating very early on in the songs"...Personally, i would stick with the 'normal' style vocals....These parts stand out as the true quality parts on the album....It's well done, great musicianship....so if you can put up with the gruff parts, you'll love it....Overall, this leans way too close to heavy metal for my personal preference....a move to the hardcore side might just make this band a keeper
