Murder By Death
Like The Exorcist, But More Breakdancing
(Formerly Little Joe Gould)
Eyeball 21
Released on August 20, 2002
|
Bloomington, Indiana's Murder By Death (Formely Little Joe Gould) is part horror movie climax, part western barroom brawl, and a dash of wintery and ambling layers reminiscent of the Cure. Their first album, "Like The Exorcist, But More Breakdancing' is the conglomeration of all these. There is both hair-raising intensity and fully aware humor; the band garnishes their most dramatic songs with live fire-breathing, ignited drums, and a glowing red skull that breathes fog. Keyboardist Vincent Edwards put it best when he said, "There should always be a place in the world for evil, evil music."

Although the name of the album is a bit unorthodox, it's loaded with well made and high level music. This album is amazing! If you're into Cursive at all, you'll adore Murder By Death. Intricate piano, cello, guitar lines, along with some very interesting bass effects and great drumming make the whole album wonderful to listen to.

its good. go buy it. its not as good as their second release, but none the less it still rules. if you havent heard of murder by death you need to be beaten with a hose or flogged in public or forced to listen to yellowcard (yes, this is slander against yellowcard).

One of the best bands live and one of the more creative bands right now. If you like Tom Waits and/or Nick Cave you should give these guy a listen. "Who will survive and what will be left of them" is better than this album, but this is still a strong album.

I heard some of the tracks of MbD new CD, and so I bought them both. This ones is quite different. It has good instruments and everything, but it seems like it's trying a little too hard to sounds artsy.

Simply an amazing debut. Personally, I don't find it as good as "Who will survive..." but that's a hard record to beat in my opinion. However, it is the perfect starting point for anyone looking into this band. Every song is complex and haunting. Plus, the band has the coolest name ever.

this little band with a powerful name from indiana recites the best indie music in past years? oh yea its true, murder by death have such an amazing style that digs a hole into you, like it or not, this is just amazing from the soul and the CHELLO! it has such a rythm with the dark and whimsical vocals, and clashes like cursive at a western ballroom dance. this band is like a fairy tale, though it may not sound real, or even possible, but you know that fairies must exist, and this band is a fairy tale of absolute beauty and musical talent, i give them a round of applause for an amazing disc and an amazing dignifying sound that should be heard by the ones who appreciate music..

This has got to be one of the best bands I've ever heard. I actually bought this CD for my girl friend because we both really liked them when we saw them open up for Thursday. I would highly recommend this CD it has a very original sound. The instrumentals are awesome and if you get a chance to see these guys live then go they are very intense and very good live.

Pretty good CD. I liked them better live though. More intensity and feeling when the played the live show. It's definitly worth the money to have and listen to. The instrumentals are amazing as well as the rest of the CD. Go see one of their live shows, you'll be blown away. They're recording a new CD now, it'll probably be 10x better than this one, can't wait.
