I'm not sure why this just wasn't released as Bright Eyes. They have such a varied sound as it is. This cd just sounds like Bright eyes with distortion pedals. Definitely worth the few dollars.

I had never listened to Bright Eyes when I heard this band and fell in love. Now having listened to Bright Eyes I've decided they aren't all that amazing. Desaparecidos however is brilliance. If you think Bright Eyes is whiny and emo or whatever, desaparecidos is completely different. They are pretty much a punk band. A punk band that has grown musically. A very good band and I hope they decide to make another cd.

I really liked this cd, and im glad i bought it... Conor Oberst voice is as usuall brilliant, and Desaparecidos plays a lot harder than fks Brigt Eyes, something i really enjoy.. The reason Read Music/Speak Spanish only gets 4 out of 5 is because its not an complete CD.. It has 6 great songs, but the rest is more mediocre... But if your into Bright Eyes, you will really love the 6 best songs on this CD, so buy...

Desaparecidos is Conor Oberst's side project. It is nothing like Bright Eyes, except for Conor's voice, which is still Conor, but angrier and some more shouting. In this band, instead of singing of heartbreak and all the usual Bright Eyes subjects, the lyrics are about the environment and population growth and subjects of that type. While it is only 10 songs, they are all very good. Or muy bueno for the non english speakers. It doesn't look like they'll be getting together for a follow up, but enjoy this until Conor comes out with a new Bright Eyes album, which should be all the way in 2007. -Domenic |

I love this CD. Too bad they only did one album. This is a faster, harder Bright Eyes. More in line with Cursive and Criteria. I love teh lyrics and Conor's voice. I sure wish they would get back together and do another CD.

for the people that are calling this an "emo" album, uhhhh yea, this is not an emo album at all. for those of you who are expecting bright eyes, be forwarned. these songs are not about conors deppression or his vanity or his self loathing or girls or whatever. every single song on this album is about things like environmental destruction, the ever growing ammount of strip malls and houses that destroy small towns, capitalism, the relation between men and women when it comes to life, not love..etc. this album is better than a couple bright eyes cds, i'm not going to lie. i guess i enjoy the lyrical content more here because it is fresh coming out of conors mouth. he writes some of the best lyrics around. this cd just has a lot of angst to it. it is far more rock than anything bright eyes will ever ammount to. this album is not slow, and i guess that's why i enjoyed it so much, because it is entirely different from the bright eyes norm. i really can't wait for their next album "payola" to come out. i hope they stay on the same track and dont turn desaparecidos into bright eyes. that would be a shame. oh a shame indeed.

i love this cd. its really good indie music. the only thing that is somewhat bad is the financial theme of the cd. i mean its not a bad thing but if youre sick of people telling you the system doesnt work its not a good thing either. the music is really good, and so are the vocals. there is no bright eyes-esque music on here, and thats good cuz i hate bright eyes. this is how connor should still sound.
