After touring together on the successful and socially conscious Plea for Peace tour, ALKALINE TRIO and HOT WATER MUSIC have once again combined forces, this time for a split release of unprecedented magnitude. Chicago natives ALKALINE TRIO pick up where their latest Vagrant Records release From Here to Infirmary left off, offering a dose of pop influenced punk rock enveloped in the shadow of death and despair with slivers of light penetrating the seams to tender a glimmer of hope and consolation. All that and a HOT WATER MUSIC cover as well. Gainesville, Florida favorites, HOT WATER MUSIC are still hot off of their recent Epitaph Records release A Flight and a Crash. With their contribution, which includes 2 ALKALINE TRIO covers, the band treads on familiar ground, churning out the type of raw and intensely passionate songs that have helped make them one of the most beloved bands around the globe. Both band's contributions are brand new and exclusive to this release.

What can I say? Two great bands! "Queen Of Pain" and "While You're Waiting" are some of the Trios best songs. And the "Rooftop" cover is good as well. "God Deciding" is one of HWM's best songs. So how can this not be good?

8/27/2008 by Brian from Kilwinning, United Kingdom Rating:
There's one reason I didn't give this a 5... I have all the good tracks elsewhere. I'm more of a Trio fan than a fan of Hot Water Music, but these tracks are all good in my opinion. I don't think the covers that HWM have done of the Trio songs are as good as they could be, but interesting nonetheless. I would recommend this CD to anyone, but be aware that if you have Remains by Alkaline Trio then you already have their tracks.

10/20/2007 by Isaac from Linwood, ON Canada Rating:
A mistake! Because I already have Remains by Alkaline Trio, which has those 3 songs-which are OK (Queen of Pain is good, but stupid lyrics). Where have all the great songwriters gone...long time passing. The two songs by HWM haven't stuck to me-YET. I'm a moderate fan (only enjoy Caution). HWM's covers of Radio and Bleeder are...well...not that great. Earlier Alkaline Trio sucks anyways.

12/13/2005 by James from Poole, United Kingdom Rating:
Really...c'mon...what do you expect me to say? Two of the worlds BEST bands playing their own tunes and covering each other...stop reading this and just bloody buy it, you bleedin' twat! BTW HWM versions of the Alk3 tunes are, actually, unbelievably BETTER than the originals, I sh*t you not...

9/17/2005 by Stephen from Las Cruces, NM Rating:
really cool cd! I bought it because I heard queen of pain on the show must go off dvd and loved it. hot water music was really good also. but i don't think they did a very good job with bleeder. It was cool to hear it acoustic though. at first i thought it was kind of a lot for only seven songs, but It is well worth the dough.

8/16/2005 by Andy from Crestview, FL Rating:
A really good cd to invest in. Hot water is awsome as usuall and Alk3 is good too. Most say Alk3 is better on this album, but I disagree. HWM is the shizat!!!

7/25/2005 by Josef from Nutley, NJ Rating:
Alkaline Trio. Hot Water Music. Together on the same album and it't not a compilation?? YES. That is whay they're trying to tell you. You just won't realized it until you buy this album. Do it. :)

7/16/2005 by Barry from Clevedon, United Kingdom Rating:
A great split CD. Quite long for an EP and with no filler tracks; unlike most split CDs neither band clearly outshines the other as both on here are great - recommended for fans of either band

11/23/2004 by Rachel from Olympia, WA Rating:
While You're Waiting and Queen Of Pain could probably make it in the top five Alkaline Trio songs.

definitely worth buying.

the Trio can do no wrong.

6/9/2004 by Michael from Selinsgrove, PA Rating:
I'm a die-hard Alkaline Trio fan and I'll tell you that this is some of the best material they've ever done. If you like Alk3 even a bit and pass on this album, then I pity you.

I also enjoy HWM quite a bit. The stuff on here is good, but not their best effort. Pick up Never Ender or Caution if you want great HWM material.

Oh, and contrary to what many have said HWM's covers of Bleeder and Radio are quite good and did not make me cringe at all. So what if they changed a few words around in Radio? It's not like it changed the mood of the song.
