What more can I say about this album. Fast, blue'sy, rockabilly, punk rock and roll from Southern California. Despite all of the radio-wave play of Billboard hits such as 'Ball & Chain' and 'Story of my Life', there are songs on this record that fuckin' blow those catchy songs away. The first track, 'So far Away' for instance. Incredible, you can tell the rest of the band wasn't feelin' the whole idea of becoming a blues band (Prison Bound). This one it seems Mike and the guys wanted to blow out the sound of mainstream by signing to EPIC records and recording a great rock and roll record that shows that in some cases Punk Rock can never sell out. Great record, catchy, fast, loud, sad, disgruntled, and rockin'. I recommend this album to any Social Distortion fan, and if you're just getting into them, but this or Mommy's Little Monster to understand the "concept" of what Social Distortion once was, and is today. 5 stars muddfucka!!!

Probably my least favorite Social D record, but I consider Social D to be so good that their s/t effort is still a great listen. It's got a lot of that gritty rock 'n' roll blues-punk sound on this one. The harmonies are deathly laced with a darker sort of passion, and the guitar solos are great and free-flying. This record's got the most soul dare-I-say country swagger out of any Social D release (I haven't heard the new '04 release yet though), so if that sounds appealing to you, this record will do you right for sure. If it doesn't sound appealing to you but you like Social D...it's still Social D. This record has TONS of attitude and direction. Mike Ness doesn't want to make people dance, he wants to rock, punk style - what he thinks is punk. He's lived on the mean streets, he's seen many things, he's been through things many of us will never be through, and on this self-titled album he tells his story after a couple years of thinking and maturing, though he's no grandpa on this record (nor on any their other records). As always, Social D rocks this out straight from the heart. That's what makes them the great band that they are.

Standout track(s): Story of My Life; Ring of Fire; Ball and Chain

Kickout track(s): n/a

This CD kicks ass I say! I haven't heard any other albums, but this one is good. . . It's got real good songs on it-- the whole album is enjoyable I think. . . If you haven't heard 'em before-- I'd say this is a safe buy!

This is the first album by Social Distortion that I bought and I think it is pretty good. I really like the songs "Story of My Life", "Ball and Chain", & "Ring of Fire". Mike Ness plays some good guitar. Nice stuff.

My first Social Distortion album, and I do not think it was worth buying. There a few descent songs, So Far Away was by far the best. I listened to my friend's copy of Mommies Little Monster, is much better than this cd.
