Beau Goes To The Hospital
Released on July 4, 2006
This, the first release from OVENS (a.k.a. NECROPHOBIC YOUTH, formerly THE PEELS---poseurs from Seattle stole their name). OVENS are the spawn of California's prolific, yet oft overlooked county of San Mateo (which gave us BENUMB, LOS RABBIS, TOMMY LASORDA, NEGATIVLAND, MR. T EXPERIENCE, SPAZZ, PLUTOCRACY), city of MILLBRAE. Crafting pop hit after grunge anthem under a 4' x 6' "Cabo Wabo" mural, OVENS hardly ever leave the garage except to go to Taco Bell beach or Las Palomaas. The album was recorded years ago and quickly squeezed through RIISK's patented 'massive delay filter' before arriving hot-off-the-press in warm, steaming, soggy boxes, just in time for a high school dance down on tire beach that OVENS played with ABI YOYOS and a FULL MOON PARTISANS cover band made up of twelve year olds. Seagulls cried and bums rolled their eyes. The album's ten songs long, recorded for 12 bucks and in a real professional studio usually utilized only by Bay Areas flourishing christian hardcore bands. Musically, if NIRVANA was 'Black Sabbath meets the Bay City Rollers', I'd guess the OVENS are 'NEGAZIONE meets HERMAN'S HERMITS' or as I think they put it 'LARM meets BACH". People say they sound like WEEZER or QUEEN, but people, it turns out, don't know shit. They sound like old FLAMING LIPS, WEEZER, REPLACEMENTS BEATLES and MELVINS combined into a farty, faggy, musical sundae.
